Canyon Lake continued their Non-Stop Volleyball games on Saturday as they participated in the Rattler Tournament in San Marcos.

The Hawks finished the day sweeping their three opponents and now prepare for best of 3 matches from here on out for this season.

CL will be starting their District 28-4A games a month from today and taking inventory and taking care of the little things become a focus for the Hawks as they prepare to build on their District Championship and see if they can add an (s) to that word.

After suffering 2 losses on Thursday in the Pool play, Canyon Lake, was placed in the Bronze Bracket and was certainly the best of this group of schools.

Poteet, San Marcos, and El Paso Andress were in the path of a team wanting to make a statement as this season progresses.

The Hawks certainly passing and basically doing all the plays needed in the sweep as none of their opponents on this day reached the 20 point plateau.

In the San Marcos sweep, the Hawks, won their first set, 25-6 and that set the tone for the rest of this tourney.

Depth was seen from across the board as CL has 5 girls still in a heated competition for a starting roll.

“We have been having a different kill leader with each game,” Head Volleyball Coach Kim Paisley said. “I would like to see someone step up and take it and would not want to share it.”

What can be seen in recent games is how each player’s game is getting better based on competition and girls trying to earn those starting rolls.

“The depth on the bench is deeper,” Coach Paisley admonished. “Some people are on and off.”

The key at this part of the season is seeing how each game certain aspect of the team progress as that all ingredient of consistency being next for Coaches to know who might be the winner in this battle for playing time.

Going for the Bronze Title was not the ultimate goal in the Rattler Tournament but beating the teams handily was certainly needed to know their will bigger games in the future.

“We came in and we wanted to get it done as fast as we could to get the hardware,” Outside hitter Alysha Perez said. “We are getting better and competing…..we are having fun with it and it helps to get energy.”

That energy would be another key element for this team as the last three days has had 7 games and the Hawks finishing 5-2 during the stretch.

“It comes to consistency and the more you put out the better you get,” Perez said in response to how she might earn more playing time. “There are so many and we are pretty even but we just need to still score points for the team.”

Pretty simple game when you just go and do what needs to be done to get wins.

That has to make Coach Paisley happy because there is one thing everyone knows Coach wants and that is wins.

Now Canyon Lake will have several big games coming up and how the Hawks perform will prepare them for District play coming in a few short weeks.
