Hawks Look to put Smiles on CL Fans Faces

Hawks Volleyball is Reaching for New Heights

Hawks Volleyball is Reaching for New Heights

Over 200 student’s took part in fall sports starting this week on Monday.

Football had in the neighborhood of 140 of those while Volleyball and Cross Country all got in gear for what could be another good start of the school year.

Last year, Canyon Lake had their first district championship with the Volleyball teams as well as Boys Cross Country and Football going further after their regular season ended.

All three sports should be in line of upping their game again this year with the new district line-up.

Football will have Austin Eastside Memorial as the new entrant while losing Liberty Hill and Bandera from last year’s district.

Volleyball and Cross Country will have a different set of teams too, as the other sports district, will have more teams Text-Logothat have moved.

In these other sports, Canyon Lake lost Cuero, La Vernia, Yoakum, Gonzales, Wimberley, and Navarro while adding Boerne, Fredericksburg, Bandera, and Hondo.

So that was a net loss of two schools which will result in a district with 5 teams.

That one fact will tell you that the Hawks only have to beat one team to get a playoff bid for more games.

Cross Country will still have a tough road as Boerne, Fredericksburg, and Bandera are tough teams in their recent history.

Hondo finished with 115 points in competing with those three schools above last year in district play giving you an idea of how tough a district this group of Hawks will have facing them.

Canyon Lake has a chance to field their best Cross Country team in the Hawks short history, so seeing how this Fall plays out should fun to watch.

Football has been stuck with the 4th seed and will be aiming to get a higher seed this season and this might be a break-out year for the Hawks.

Coach Drum had this to say as practice opened up this week, “After our best participation in speed and strength camp ever, the kids are in great shape both physically and mentally.”

That is certainly good news as that Blanco game is right around the corner and coming out of the shoot would set the stage for a better year.

Volleyball has some big shoes to fill after the loss of several Seniors that left a great footprint for future teams.

Sweeping Wimberley while finishing the district games undefeated will hopefully give CL a boost for a repeat this season.

Coach Kimberley Paisley had this to say after the first day of practice, “We are ready for 2016 season! The kids have worked hard in preparing for this and can’t wait to start competing.”

On what was seen when the girls showed up, Coach Paisley commented, “We are excited about the turn out at tryouts this year. The freshman group is very talented and we are excited to watch them develop!”

But all good coaches will always leave enough to show the team that they are not where they need to be and there will be many things to work on as this season gets started next Tuesday.

“We are skill ready,” Coach Paisley calculated. “But we will need to refine our team chemistry and strategies.”

The Volleyball team will be the first to show what this year might have in store as CL will start with SA Clemens and Liberty Hill next Tuesday at the Hawk Nest!!

This is a fun time of year and now the Dentists will need to be ready to clean some teeth as those smiles hope to be coming from many Canyon Lake fans this season.

Go Hawks!!
