Bracken Stays Out of Trouble in Win Over Giddings Indians
Bracken Christian is Ready for another Win
Bracken Christian kept a Giddings State School at arms length in their win, 36-32 on Friday night.
The Indians will have a team that could be different every game based on what type of week those young man might have experienced on those previous days leading up to game time.
In other words many of those players will miss a game or two during their 2016 schedule that are not always injury related.
“When they got off the bus and I saw the guys I said, ‘what have we got into,’ Head Coach Hosea Stredic recalled. “They had some big guys and they were not on the field in their game last week that I watched film on.”

To put it succinctly, this Giddings team had some players.
“They were big and strong guys,” Coach Stredic stated the obvious. “Bastrop Consolidated was similar but they were not as quick and Giddings was very physical and athletic team.”
Bracken scored on their second possession when the Warriors took over on Giddings 23 yard line. BCS would muff a play for negative yards and then a Lucas McCrum 8 yard run followed by a Presley Day pass from QB Brady Beene for a touchdown had the first score.
Kicker Paul Nakalanga had his kick blocked as almost every Indian player was on top of the ball in no time. That would be the first hint that this Giddings team might be different in personnel.
“That is correct,” Coach Stredic said in agreement of knowing that this group of players would not be an easy victory or win at all. “We moved the ball back for our point afters to help with those kicks.”
Giddings would prove that they would be a full game of action when the Indians scored on their next two times with the ball to take a 2nd quarter lead, 13-6 with right over 7 minutes remaining until half.
Costly fumbles presented a 4 touchdown swing as BCS fumbled on their possession between the two scores by Giddings and then a fumble at the end of game turned out to be the last touchdown of the game as that miscue was returned 75 yards for a one possession Bracken lead.
The Warriors had two backs end the game with over 100 yard rushing as Day and McCrum finished with 139 and 108 yards respectfully.
Bracken’s passing game had several flavors as two QB’s threw touchdown passes and 5 Warriors had a catch having the most receivers with a catch in a game since The ReSporter has been covering games (2009).

Reese Smith has become a go to receiver as he caught another touchdown pass and this catch came from 22 yards out and what would a BCS lead right before halftime, 28-13.
Giddings came from their break by stopping Bracken’s opening 2nd half drive and then covering 55 yards in 6 plays on a run by #39 from 13 yards out.
Bracken would give more proof that a good place kicker will be worth gold this season as the next Warrior score had QB Beene finding another player that is getting some good catches this season in Slater Corey who scored from 10 yards and increased the lead by 2 points, 36-19.
Those 2 point kicks would prove to be the difference in this contest.
That would be the final Warrior score and Giddings would score with their offense and defense to close out this game.
“I was pleased with the outcome but we still made mistakes with our fumbles,” Coach Stredic said like a coach. “The main thing to me coming out of this game was coming out healthy.”
Another testament on how physical this Giddings School turned out to be in this meeting.
“This game will help us know that we have played bigger, stronger, and faster teams and still came out good with a win,” Coach Stredic closed. “We are never out of the game.”
Bracken will have an off week this Friday and then hit the gridiron against SA Lutheran in two weeks.
