Canyon Lake’s JV squad played an efficient game against Austin Reagan as the depth of the Hawks was just too much for the speedy Raiders to keep up with in the, 38-06 win.

The Hawks started their scoring after a failed 4th down play by Austin Reagan. The Raiders only needed 2 yards at the midfield stripe but the CL’s defense not only held but a slew of Green and Gold stopped the Raiders for a 2 yard loss and loss of downs.

CL then responded on their 2nd drive needing just 3 plays for the score. Reagan had negated the first two running plays so Canyon Lake resorted to a pass to open up those clogged running lanes.

QB Jacob Neel had a wide open Connor Rose for a catch and run of 48 yards and the first score of the evening.

Austin Reagan would suffer their first of 4 lost fumbles on their next possession as this fumble had the Raiders

already in Hawk territory on the 32 yard line.

This fumble had JC Glowka picking the ball up for a 70 yard fumble return only to be called back with CL having to start 69 yards from the goal line after stepping off the clipping penalty.

“That was the second time I have had a touchdown called back,” Glowka recalled. “When I was in the 8th Grade I had a pick 6 for 60 yards and that was the only time I handled the ball that whole year….now I have had it happen twice.”

On what was the turning point in getting Canyon Lake going, Glowka commented, “We got used to their offense and that got our heads cleared and we were always watching their backs.”

Canyon Lake did clamp down on the Raiders for most of the game when the contest started to mature.

It took just two plays for the next score as Rose had some nifty moves for a 35 yard run and a two touchdown lead, 14-0.

CL’s defense would get stouter when Jordan Burke got to the Raider’s QB for a 6 yard sack and forcing a 4th down punt that would have the Hawks starting this possession on the Hawks 30 yard line.

Landry Moore nothing but daylight as Zane Fullen blocks for run

Enter Landry Moore for a one play 70 yard run to paydirt that took 15 seconds to score. Moore is one of the fastest Hawks so that little tidbit of time would tell you how much weaving was accomplished to get into the open for that score.

“We were playing a 5A team and we had the intensity to have an overall game and go out and play,” Moore said. “Towards the end of the game and with all of their injuries, made it a much more difficult game for them.”

Moore was commenting on how many of the Raiders had to be helped to their sideline for this contest.

That will let you know that Reagan did not have a lot of players to start with so any player going out of the game just exasperated their predicament in running out of gas as this game progressed.

Well, Reagan would lose another fumble on their kick-off return and that put the Hawks back in business and this scoring drive would take just 3 plays for a score.

The Hawks had a muffed handoff for a 5 yard loss on their first down and then an incomplete pass had CL needing 15 yards for a first at their 40 yard line.

QB Neel would take the snap and heave the ball to a streaking Chance Martelli who was well covered but the ball found one of Martelli’s hand which juggled the ball and then snagged the ball with both hands for a 40 yard touchdown pass and run.

That play put CL up 26 points and in the driver’s seat for the remainder of this contest.

Reagan did respond with their only touchdown drive on their 2nd drive of the half taking 7 plays with 3 of those plays going over 10 yards gained in succession. QB Haines ran the ball in as Reagan did have many skilled players.

CL would respond with an answered Touchdown when Moore wanted more on a 49 yard run for his last time to handle the rock. Moore finished the night with 159 yards on the ground for a decent 32 yards per carry average.

There would be several Touchdowns called back due to Hawk penalties and that held runners like Rose under the 100 yard marker.

Jesse Andrade would finish the scoring after catching a 15 yard pass from QB Michael Harwell to put this game in running clock mode.

Three passes and three touchdowns is what a slot-t offense can produce many times as teams get hypnotized at looking in the backfield and trying to find the ball carrier to only have one player sneaking past that trance for a touchdown.

The Hawks improved on their opening game with Blanco and will now go into the Giddings game with some momentum and looking for how to coral a Buffalo.

Go Hawks!!
