Hawks Win Alpha-Omega Game against Giddings

Mountain Valley 8th Grade was able to split their game Giddings for the opening day of this year’s football season.

The Hawk ‘B’ squad had an alpha/omega game as Mountain Valley was able to score the first and last touchdown to salvage this contest, 14-06.

That first touchdown for MV would be their first drive covering 41 yards when Jake Peters crossed the goal line on a one yard run.

The drive was helped when Devyn Placeres was able to get around the edge for a 28 yard jaunt and setting up the Hawks with a first and goal from the 3 yard line. Two plays later, Peters was crossing the line for the first score of this year.

Giddings MS responded on the next drive by covering 50 yards with Jesus Orocio tied the score on the 8th play and tying the score at 6-all.

From their to that final Hawk drive in the fourth quarter, both teams decided to play defense and turnover game.

Mountain Valley had a fumble to end their next possession but the defense would rise to the occasion stopping the Buffs on their 10 yard line.

In that second half, MV started their first drive throwing an interception and giving Giddings good field position at the Hawks 35 yard line.

Responding with a 4 play defensive stand with their visitors riding on their Buffalo, Mountain Valley, only needed one more omega possession for the win.

After the MV stop, the Hawks started on their own 27 yard line for what would be a 12 play drive for the win.

With a motion penalty after getting the first down, Mountain Valley would find themselves needing 12 yards on a 4th down play at their 42 yard line.

With a Jacob Reese throw to a streaking Placeres the Hawks would travel 25 yards on their only completion of the game that set the Hawks up Buffaloes 33 yard line.

That was the turning point of the game since not being successful could have set Giddings in prime position for a chance to win.

Derrick Grier would get the 4 running plays covering 26 yards and Mountain Valley with a first down on Giddings 7 yard line.

Placeres would take the next handoff all 7 yards for the winning touchdown, after a Grier two point run and Hawk, 14-06 lead.

On Giddings last chance the game came to an end when Placeres intercepted the pass for the alpha-omega win.

The Hawks had a great win to start the season by allowing just 84 yards of offense by Giddings and the eventual victory.

Go Hawks!!

Mountain Valley 8th ‘A’ Squad ran out of time in loss to Giddings A team, 22-8.

On the Hawks next possession they were able to drive 70 yards on 10 plays and scoring on the 2nd play of the second quarter to tie the game when QB Peyton McMullen followed his blockers for a 10 yard run to paydirt.

The game would stay within reach until Giddings scored with just 3:00 minutes left in the game on Gage Jaehne 7 yard run and, 22-08 lead.

The Hawks would have one more drive to get on the board but an injury with just seconds left would stop action as the Giddings player had to be carted off the field.

Prayers for the Buffalo player as he recoups from the injury.

Mountain Valley had sparks in the game but not enough sparks to start a fire causing the Hawks to have a cold night in September.

Good Game and Go Hawks!!
