Bracken Christian hit a brick wall in the second half as Fredericksburg Heritage scored 40 unanswered points in an important district win, 64-36.

“We are going to make some adjustments on defense,” Head Coach Hosea Stredic started. “There is no aggressiveness in our defense and we have regressed in the last two weeks and next week we will need to go back to the basics.”

The first half had indications that this game might go down to the wire but the Eagles had second thoughts as Heritage had scores by interceptions, kick-offs, pass and run. The whole package was unveiled in this contest.

The game’s first score was after the Warriors came up short on their 4th down try on the Eagle’s 16 yard line.

Heritage scored on their first drive covering 63 yards in 5 plays when Dillon Roberts ran it in from 6 yards out.

Bracken responded when QB Brady Beene found a player not known by many offensive plays, as Cade Middleton was the recipient of a 7 yard pass play. The Paul Nakalanga bonus kick would tie up the score at 8 all.

A bid stop on Fredericksburg’s next drive as the bend but not break Warrior defense held at the 4 yard line.

This drive started in the 1st quarter and ended with a little over 8 minutes in the 2nd quarter.

Bracken would drive 76 yards as a Beene to Cristian DeLeon pass play for 37 yards would set up a Hunter Mitchell 7 yard burst up the middle for a BCS lead, 16-8.

Beene would be johnny on the spot on FHE’s next drive with an interception that allowed another Warrior chance for a score.

BCS penetrated to the Eagles’ 20 yard line when the Warriors would call on Nakalanga for a 38 yard field goal try. This attempt would be the longest in Bracken’s history but a delay penalty would make this record try 5 yards longer.

The boom from Nakalanga’s foot was evident that this field goal would have been good from 50 yards as the 43 yarder will now set a lofty goal for future Warriors as the score was increased by 4 points, 20-8.

An on-side kick that went awry allowed a return for a touchdown for 44 yards and Fredericksburg closed the gap, 20-16.

There were 4 scores during the final 2 minutes of the second quarter as those 2 total scores in the first half would be an anomaly.

Bracken stretched their lead back to 12 points when Lucas McCrum found DeLeon in the end zone from 21 yards out. The catch was vintage DeLeon as he continues to climb the receiving marks as a force for the Warriors.

Heritage would take all but 4 seconds on their final drive before the half with a score to draw the game back to within striking range with an halftime score of BCS-28 and Heritage 24.

That is when the curtains fell down on the production as the Eagles would open the second half with a one play 69 yard pass and run and a Heritage lead since their first score to start

the game.

Bracken found it hard to generate any offense and with Heritage scoring on each of their drives in the second half gave the visitors enough scoring to take a commanding lead and game.

BCS was able to have several players able to generate offense by the run and pass as the Warrior attack was searching for ways to move the ball in that second half.

“We are going to watch film and look at the ugly and fix the ugly,” Senior QB Beene said. “There are a lot to clean-up and we just need to take pride into our next game.”

This loss put Bracken with a must win this next Friday as the game with Victoria Faith will have the victor with that last playoff spot.

BCS does have weapons and will not have a lot of time to get over the 2 game slump. Hopefully they can design a way to go over that brick wall instead of hitting it.
