Bracken Comes Up Short in Loss to the Bobcats, 74-70
Bracken just could not catch up in their game with Living Rock Academy coming up short, 74-70 in this hard fought contest. It was the Warriors first district loss as LRA will go into their next week district contest undefeated.
Possessions would be an important aspect of those little things that will determine if a team will leave with a victory or loss.
Last week, that little thing was Paul Nakalanga winning the bonus kick contest and allowing BCS to win by scoring less touchdowns.
This week, a little thing was not being able to have more possessions which happened on the first play in the last two games. A fumble that was recovered by your opponent. That turnover would end up being that time of not having an opportunity to score which might have been the points needed for a 4 point loss.
“You can’t start a game with a turnover,” Head Coach Hosea Stredic started. “We did what we wanted to do defensively and wanting LRA to throw more than run, but our defensive backs just did not stay in coverage.”
This game can be capsuled in the second quarter as the Bobcats 3 scoring drives in a row making it hard on the Warriors in their quest for a comeback.
The Spread Back for LRA might be in the Warriors dreams for the next few nights as this speedster made Bracken grasping for air with his arm and feet.
Some nick and bruises caused the Warriors’ two starting backs to miss some plays and that
exasperated this game and loss.
Hunter Mitchell did make his presence known with 115 yards rushing and scoring as a receiver and running back in the game.
That last run was from 43 yards out which gave Bracken a chance near the end of this game but the onside kick did not end up in the hands of a Warrior.
Now Bracken will be back home this next week when they face a very potent Fredericksburg Heritage. This district has just 4 teams playing but 3 of those schools have the make-up for going far in the playoffs. Case and point Living Rock Academy winning against Bracken.
“They (Heritage) will be prepared to play,” Coach Stredic said. “They have one of the best coaches and he will have them ready.”
Ready or not, here they come and time for Bracken to get back with their winning ways.
Go Warriors!!
