CL Hawks finish regular season with a win over Bandera that will pit their next round in the playoffs with Wimberley. The place and time will be announced later this week as Canyon Lake finished district play in second place with this win over the Bulldogs.

Good times with a chance of beating the Texans in something that they excel in with all of their past State Championships.

In the game with Bandera, the Hawks were coming off a lethargic game with Fredericksburg last Friday that put this game with the Bulldogs for a battle to see who would garner the 2nd seed of District 28-4A.

“This was especially sweet after the Fredericksburg game,” Head Coach Kim Paisley said. “We needed to win like this to carry over into the playoffs…..I wanted us to go strong into the playoffs.”

The Hawk sweep of Bandera started with CL not being able to advance a lead past 2 points. There were 6 ties as each team would have the lead until the Hawks decided to seize the game when Daniella Bustamante was next to serve with a Hawk, 13-11 lead.
With a Bustamante ace and Anna Bettersworth kill the Hawks had finally opened up the largest lead of the night, 15-11.

Bandera responded scoring and getting the set back to a 16-13 Hawk advantage.

Then Canyon Lake would take control as Faith Hasness started the onslaught with a kill and then Sophomore Paige Bower score on a block and kill as Hasness would serve a 6 point rally.

Landry Hollum and Regan Mickey would also contribute kills during the rally as Hasness chipped in with an ace as well.

Canyon Lake ballooned that 3 point lead to a 23-14 advantage and eventual, 25-16 first set victory.

Regan Mickey played on varsity for 4 years and this athlete has set some lofty goals for sets in a career. Mickey had a final team record of 32-12 for her time at the Lake in games played at home.

“I was super excited,” Mickey said in response as she prepared for this night. “I feel like each year we went up and it ended on a good note…..I have had a very good 4 years.”

On what Regan would say to her sister, Riley Mickey, “I can’t wait to watch you next year.”

But that will not be for some time as the Hawks have another set of games coming up next week.

“Yes, it is time to chase some Gold Balls,” Regan Mickey closed when talking about what the team will achieve with each win from here on out.

In the second set, Bandera would once again take early control of this contest as they increase their lead to a, 12-8 score, when the Hawks would finally take flight.

This time Hanna White was on the serving line for a 7 point rally that had the first and only tie of the set during the run of points. White had two aces during this stint as the Bulldogs looked like they had paws in trying to return White’s serves.

Hollum, Hasness, and Bettersworth had kills during the run that would leave CL with a 3 point lead that would finish with an eventual 7 point advantage, 25-18.

That 3rd set had Bettersworth being the recipient to Mickey’s sets for 5 kills as this game was all Hawks as their largest lead was 11 points on 3 occasions as Alysha Perez finished with 7 kills for the match and the final kill for the regular season and last home game of the year.

CL has just 8 games with their home jerseys this season but the last one was the most important as the Hawks now have a better taste in their mouths after the debacle in Fredericksburg last week.

Now preparations will be forth coming as the Hawks will be participating in their 3rd playoff in a row against a school that has probably played more playoff games than Canyon Lake has played in their history.
