Mountain Valley 7A team have talk after win over Billies

Mountain Valley Middle School took care of Fredericksburg Middle School on Thursday as both the A and B squads scored impressive wins.

Mountain Valley MS ‘B’ Team was first as this game was highlighted on the first driver for the Billies when Jonathan Alvarado almost took the deep snap for the Billies punting unit for a block and setting up the Hawks with a short field.

Needing 32 yards for a score the Hawks took 2 running plays by Tanner Davis. The first run went 31 yards to the Billies one yard line and then Davis finished off what he started darting in from the one for the first score, 8-0.

That would be all this Hawk team would need as the MV defense would give up just one score and by snuffing out Fredericksburg’s point after, the Hawk goal line would be safe for the rest of this contest.mvms-logo

Mountain Valley’s next drive covered 49 yards with this drive being highlighted by Gibby Martinez as he would book-end two 19 yard runs during the drive. One of those 19 yard runs helped convert a 4th down and 10 yards needed giving the Hawks that extra boost and score, 14-0.

Fredericksburg only score was next, when the Billies drove 55 yards on 9 plays for the score. Those 55 yards would be 87% of the Billies total yardage for the game.

The Billies two drives in the second half was thwarted with two Hawk interceptions.

Tanner Davis had the first theft and Cody Jones obliged with the second Mountain Valley INT. for what would be a good dominating win over their counterparts.

That one Hawk score in the 4th quarter had Chandler Nelms going wide for 11 yards a he just had enough room to squeeze into the end zone.

Davis finished the evening with 104 yards while the rest of MV’s runners each had respectable averages in winning this game.

Mountain Valley’s 7th A Team spotted the Billies 6 points and then reeled off 32 unanswered points in their dominating win, 32-06.

“We stayed focused and were mentally sound which guided us through the second half,” Coach Gary Hartman stated.

That first Fredericksburg drive covered 55 yards but for the rest of this contest, MV was in the Billies backfield in not allowing any positive yardage for the rest of the game.

“Together we are one force and family,” Nolan Niemuth said while commenting on how well the defense took over this game. “By putting our mindset to it (playing tough defense) we can accomplish anything and we were strong and played as hard as we can.”

That certainly was the case with the word ‘domination’ not doing this squad justice.

This win had a lot of James Bates taking the rock for 253 yards as the Hawk offense churned out 343 yards on the ground.

A Bates 52 yard run to finish out the first half was impressive as the offensive line got just enough room for Bates to squirt through and then his speed had the MVMS with a, 14-06 lead going into half.

“I would just like to think the offensive line,” Bates said like he was standing in front of a hotel. “We got better and started working as a team and we were expecting to make plays.”

Making plays was evident in having over 300 yards via the ground game in this win.

Starting the 2nd Half, Mountain Valley took the 3rd quarter ball and scored leaving just 44 seconds on the clock. This drive 13 plays where Braden Maxson would have some punishing runs and contributing 31 yards on the 80 yard drive.

Bates would score from 10 yards out and sealed this win.

The Hawks defense was just as impressive allowing a total of 42 yards for the game with the second half having the Billies garnering just 1 yard for the half.

On that last Billie drive, Aaron Hoffman had an interception snuffing out whatever little chance Fredericksburg would have in scoring.

The Hawks had a rusher (Bates) that averaged six-man numbers per carry and a defense that clamped down after the first Billies score. The combination of those two facts led Mountain Valley to their second win on this night for a combined score, 52-12.
