Hawks Flying High & Beat Freddie

Hawks Flying High & Beat Freddie

This week at Canyon Lake had some very good games as the Hawk Volleyball team beat Boerne and will now battle Hondo and Fredericksburg this week.

The Friday game will be for a chance to repeat as District Champs and that feat can only be accomplished by a resounding victory over the Billies.

Fredericksburg has yet to lose in district and they will have a game in Bandera on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are no pushover and their could be an upset in those hills. If the Billies take care of business then Canyon Lake will need to get revenge and either take sole position at the top or share that lofty seat with Fredericksburg.

There are 3 games remaining as this will be the final full week of regular season action.

This game will be a precursor for the Football game where the Hawks will take the field to continue a chance of staying on top in District 14-4A play.

So, Hawk fans need to be in attendance for the Volleyball game before vacating for the football action. A good time to see a good team with a chance of getting their second District Championship.

The Hawk Football club had a solid victory last Friday over a surprised Boerne team that seemed in a daze as the game came to a conclusion. The Greyhounds were the pre/season pick to take district but now Canyon Lake and Taylor both can control their own destiny by winning out.

Taylor will play at Boerne this week and that game could muddy the waters or clear it up based on the victorious school.

Fredericksburg is another passing offense and this will be another chance for the Hawks to continue their surprise the district tour. CL has not had a playoff date with a lower seeded team in the last few years and now stand a good chance of finishing this campaign in a new neighborhood.

Canyon Lake’s Cross Country team finished their fall season last week and this group of runners were way over their head as the new schools after the re-alignment were as advertised. Good!!

“Well we knew it would be tough and it was,” Head Cross Country Coach Mary Beth Gallagher said. “Matt Bell medaled, he was 15th and Jaren Marmolejo finished right after him at 16th place.”

CL has some good younger students as Kaitlyn Yuill entered this year with some good times.

“Kaitlyn had a disappointing day as she finished 17th and her time was not one of her best,” Coach Gallagher said. “But she is only a Freshman…..we had a foreign exchange student, Cassandra Luth finish 3rd on the JV and Peter Schultz finished 11th and medaled for the JV Boys.”

Coach Gallagher closed, “We are very young and I’m very proud of them, especially Matt and Jaren, they put up some good times and were hanging with those incredible boys from Boerne, Fred and Bandera.”

Canyon Lake keeps stockpiling good athletes each year and this will be another team that will surprise as they mature through the grades.

Go Hawks!!
