Yeah, it that kind of week as the Volleyball season is winding down and CL’s Football team has an bye week in their District 14-4A action.

Last week the Hawk’s Volleyball team split their games and will be fighting for a 2nd place finish when they meet Bandera for the only game this Tuesday.

The winner will have the second seed for the tournament which is something to achieve as the two teams on top of the first round district are two teams that have beaten Canyon Lake earlier this season, La Vernia and Navarro.

Both teams are ranked and the Panthers have a top 5 standing at this writing. The Hawks meanwhile seem to be in a spiral which is not good when you want to keep your balance at the net.

Their loss to Fredericksburg was not even close in the sweep and that solidified first place for the Billies for District 28-4A this season.

Bandera is just one game from tying the Hawks with a win giving Canyon Lake no room to play lackadaisical in finishing district play.

Playoffs for Volleyball will begin in earnest next week and The ReSporter will have all the details so visit again the middle of the week to see who and where Canyon Lake might be serving and spiking the ball.

As for the Hawk Football team, there is a chance that CL can finish this year’s race on top of the heap in District 14-4A as this week all eyes will be on Taylor as they will welcome Fredericksburg on Friday night.

If Fredericksburg can pull off an upset then Canyon Lake would be the District Champion even with a loss to Taylor in two weeks.

A Taylor win will then have the next week’s game for all the marbles when the Ducks come to the Lake for the deciding contest. Boerne has the 3rd seed wrapped up and the Billies have a game with Austin Eastside after the Taylor battle and using the eye-ball theorem then has Fredericksburg getting the last playoff spot.

Canyon Lake has never had a better than 3rd seed as that was accomplished in 2009 when Wimberley and Burnet finished ahead of the Hawks.

This will be a fun two weeks as CL will now start their preparation for the Ducks who have had the Hawks number the past two campaigns.
