CL Hawks JV Win with Ease over Karnes City Badgers, 56-14

Canyon Lake’s JV team scored 18 points in the first quarter and coasted to a 42 point victory over KCJV as the Badgers struggled scoring 14 points in the contest winning, 56-14.
Those 2 Badger points were scored early in that first quarter and then a dry spell for the Badgers allowed the Hawks to forge to a 21-2 lead before the next KC point with just 3 minutes before halftime intermission.
After the 3rd period, Canyon Lake, enjoyed a 37 point advantage with all hands on deck. Every Hawk had some stat to show off with no drop off as the Hawk bench looked like a game for musical chairs.

Michael Harwell led CL with 12 points and was perfect from the floor on 5 shots.
The leading rebounder came from a guard as Tae Gray corralled 6 in this game.
You want assists? Another Guard named Gray as Noah finished with a smooth 3 in the contest.
The ReSporter witnessed an event in this game not seen in Canyon Lake’s history as Zach Taliaferro had a tip-in shot as the guard play was present in all phases for this game.
“My family plays 21 and the only way you can score is on a tip-in,” Taliaferro said on how he looked like a natural scoring in this manner. “This game was hard to play and I thought we did a good job as we stayed focused….sometimes we might not be hustling to the ball and getting rebounds, but we made a point in finishing around the basket and we showed some solid defense.”
Karnes City was a younger looking team on the hardwood as this was a lower division school that is only able to field 2 teams.

The Badgers did struggle getting shots off against the much taller Hawks, but one play was certainly entertaining as Big Man-Jarred Rollins took the ball coast to coast and as he was nearing the basket a much smaller Badger was able to get enough ball to secure a block on the mammoth Rollins.
Rollins will attempt to show anyone who might ask him about the play, where he was hit on the arm, but with long sleeves the marks were not visible.
“I had already had the steal and I saw open space and went for the lay-up,” Rollins said with eloquence.
On what Rollins will need to do in finishing the next part of the season, “Play quarter by quarter and see what the match-ups are like and if our opponent is playing zone or man.”
The technician was flawless with his answer but will need to be sure that he starts his next lay-up higher with the ball in order to have an easy 2 points.
A good game with some tougher competition upcoming before district comes calling in early January.
