CL Hawks Take Care of Navarro, 57-53
Canyon Lake Lady Hawks take out the Navarro Panthers with a hard fought win, 57-53.
“We really battled well all night,” Head Coach Zach Burleson said. “It was a real good win for us and this is a tough place to play.”
This 9th win tied last year’s total and with another Hawk victory, this team will have the most conquests in the past 4 years.
CL had a 10 point lead going into the 4th quarter and staving off a Panther all out blitz for a win is another key on seeing how this team keeps learning how to win.
“Going into the 4th, we just talked about taking care of the ball and continuing to contest shots and secure rebounds,” Coach Burleson surmised. “The girls were able to do that and that was key for holding on and getting out of there with a win. We did a great job of breaking the press and getting into scoring opportunities….this was our best effort to date versus a press.”
The Hawks were led with a 26 point night from Reagan Heun who had a can’t miss night from the 3 point arc. Heun finished with 6 for the night on just two misfires in her point totals.
Heun’s point total was one off her 27 she scored earlier this year against Somerset. This game put another notch in Heun’s climb for Hawk records as she is within reach of passing Tiffany Tschoepe for most double digit scoring games.

Alexa Ramos also had double digit scoring finishing with 13 points while also connecting with 2 three point shots. Ramos who is already in second place in all-time steals was doing some thieving again in Navarro coming away with 6 as she hassled her opponent.
Ramos was just one steal away of tying her best as she has reached 7 steals on three other occasions.
This win was accomplished after a turnover fest of their own committing 26 which is not a recipe for a win on most nights.
Little things were also evident in this road win as Mia Riali was a can’t miss in making both of her shots with one coming from outside the 3point line joining Heun and Ramos on this night.
As a team, Canyon Lake, had one of their best shooting nights with 50% shooting and a much better than average 56% from three-point land. With some work at the free throw line this Hawk team would have had a run-a-way win against Navarro.
The Hawks will be in Austin this Friday with a chance for their 5th straight win.
