Canyon Lake Hawks JV 1 team won their 6th game with just one loss after taking the New Braunfels’ Cougarettes to the zoo in a, 44-13 victory.

A pair of Hawks had 12 points with Lainee Moses and Sophia Barber leading the charge for Canyon Lake.

Barber had a different outlook on this contest as a Canyon transfer that knew this opponents in a much deeper way.

Guard Barber shared how she approaches her games, “I address the situation and as a guard you have to take charge of the game.”

On how she prepared for a game against former teammates, Barber styled, “They are my friends but I still had to play them hard and I did not hold back.”

That was evident as Barber got every Hawk, in the chair, as they carved out a run-a-way win.

This game was off and running as CL jumped out to a quick 10-0 score as Barber started and finished this sprint to start the game.

In between those two Barber baskets, Canyon Lake had a make from Laney Heun then a Moses lay-up that was followed by a Marley Carrizales free throw. That was when Barber would put an exclamation on the outbreak with a smooth 3 pointer with 3:36 still on the 1st quarter clock.

In the Hawks first quarter, they made 5 of 7 shots that had the ball distributed for an assist giving basketball fans a good lesson on how round-ball game can be played.

Emily Boylan put the finishing touches on that first quarter when she was fed the ball from Carrizales and drained another 3 pointer for an opening 13 point advantage.

The Hawks would extend that lead another 6 points during the next quarter going into halftime with a comfortable, 28-9 lead.

Canyon JV was anemic to put it mildly on the offensive side of the ball with no more than 2 baskets for the whole second half.

CL Hawks continued to get all their players involved with a convincing win as the future continues to be bright as this group of players have established a niche and are rivaling as one of the best Freshman crews to play at the Hawk nest.

Now Barber plans to have a name change to Sophia Stylist as she continues to beautify this year’s Hawks.

In the Canyon Lake’s previous Canyon Tournament action, the Hawks, had 5 freshman players that had significant time on the court as a primer for what might be some good seasons.

This JV 1 team will be a on the road this week but back in action for their last game at home against La Vernia.

The Hawk JV 2 team was also victorious in their game against the Florence JV squad supplying a sweep on this night.

Congrats Hawks!!
