Lady Hawks Have Comfortable Win over Florence, 51-17

CL Hawks featured the Seniors in beating Florence on Friday at the Hawk Nest, 51-17.

The fact that Canyon Lake had just two Seniors to feature did not take away from the fireworks in the 34 point victory as Florence was out classed from the get-go. Sarah Russell and Mia Riali had the honors as both players started their career as freshman and will leave a mark for future Hawks.

Alexa Ramos hit the double digit scoring plateau to keep Russell company with several Hawks scoring and putting this game away with a 16 point first quarter lead. The Hawks would continue the onslaught by outscoring Florence in each stanza for the win.

Another good game with minimal turnovers while stealing 19 of Florence’s passes for easy baskets while controlling both ends of the floor.

“We had a good run,” Russell said with a straight face. “We had been obviously working on our offense and defense.”

Russell scored two 3pointers the conventional way but also had the ‘old fashion’ 3 point play on a foul and one from the free throw line.

“We just work things that we will not usually run in games with some of our sets,” Head Coach Zach Burleson said while commenting on how he coaches a game that gets out of hand quickly. “Games like this gives us an opportunity to look at different offense and defensive plays and allows us to get comfortable.”

Canyon Lake was certainly comfortable in this win as some repetition will hopefully benefit the Hawks in future games.
