Lady Hawks Win 5th Straight in Bout with Austin Travis, 45-19

A five game winning streak is now in the books as Canyon Lake took care of Austin Travis with a, 45-19 win.

“We struggled shooting tonight,” Head Coach Zach Burleson started. “We had looks but we just did not hit many shots.”

The Hawks were short handed in this victory as Christmas break seemed to take some players on this night.

This did turn out to be a good game for the freshman players as they contributed 20 points and 19 rebounds to the Hawk cause.

Jessie Melendez had her 2nd double-double this season with an 11 point and 12 rebound tilt as her freshman partner, Chelsea Tschoepe was just one off the double digit scoring rafter with 9 points and a solid 7 rebounds from the guard position.

Tschoepe helped in getting 5 steals that contributed to what CL would need in this department as their leader in steals, Alexa Ramos, was one of those missing players in this tilt.

“Chelsea played all 32 minutes and continued to play well,” Coach Burleson admonished. “Our freshman combined for 20 points and we talked during and after the game about being ready to go at the tip.”

Coach Burleson comments were in regard to how tough a district the Hawks will be in and these games are ones that need to be honed in on as the preparation continues for district play that is right around the corner.

“We have to have a better start if we are going to compete in this district,” Coach Burleson commented. “I didn’t do a good job of getting us mentally ready to compete tonight.”

Reagan Heun continued her double digit scoring assault finishing with 17 points including another solid performance from the charity stripe making 6 out of 7 from the line.

The Hawks defense was on display holding Travis to just 4 points at the mid-way point of the game as CL enjoyed a comfortable 17 point lead going into intermission.

Canyon Lake has this game well in hand going into the fourth quarter by adding another 10 point to that 17 point lead as the coasting was on in the hill-country to finish this contest.

CL will have their last pre-Christmas game this coming Monday with the La Vernia Bears coming to hibernate in the Hawk Nest.

This game will also be live-streamed for the Hawk Nation.
