Canyon Lake is going strong with Basketball and Swimming as December started with both the Boys and Girls round ball teams in tournament action.
There will be more basketball this week as Tuesday will have both clubs on the road and then non-stop basketball starting on Friday as the Boys will host their Canyon Lake Classic Tournament.
The games are already set which you can peruse above while the girls will host Florence and New Braunfels Junior Varsity starting Friday at 5pm.
The girls had a rough time in the Canyon Tournament as those slow starts had the Hawks climbing in each game but one. Those losses were still close and a faster start could have resulted in more victories.
The ReSporter is sure Coach Burleson is working on some kind of potion that can put some urgency in games no matter their start date.
CL’s Boys won all their games that did not have the name Somerset on the jersey. A loss on Tuesday and then meeting up with that same school in the Championship game in Marion had that recurring nightmare as Somerset has proven they know how to play round ball.
This week should be a good chance to see how both teams will handle their competition as both still work on honing their skills as district play will be calling in less than a month.
In Swimming, Canyon lake will be traveling to Burnet for the Small Team Invitational.
The Hawks have won this meet the past couple of years and will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday.
Small teams are set apart as those larger schools can beat schools the size of the Hawks with depth and with Canyon Lake not being able to field a diving team puts the CL at a disadvantage when they compete in those larger district wide meets.
So this Friday, Canyon Lake will have a chance to continue their dominance against other schools in the same size range.
Good time of the year to come and support your Hawks!!
