Go Hawks!!

           Go Hawks!!

The ReSporter: Tell me if the girls or you have realized yet that this is the first team win for any track event for the Lady Hawks, what are your thoughts on that accomplishment?

Coach Barthels: “I thought that this was the first time that the girls had won a track meet, but I knew for sure it was the first time that the boys and girls varsity teams had won together. Turns out it was both.”

The ReSporter: How close are you to getting to know what each girls strengths are?

Coach Barthels: “I know what their strengths are, we are just now starting to see them believe in themselves to show those strengths.”

The ReSporter: This is probably the most depth the Hawks have had as they scored in 13 of the 16 events, what has happened in order to get to this level? (more…)

Canyon Lake Ladies Track & Field accomplished a first when they won the Panther Relay in Navarro last Thursday.

The Hawk Junior Varsity finished with a 2nd place trophy as the depth CL is starting to come to fruition.

Bailey Drum had a great evening finishing with 44 points out of a possible 45. Not a bad percentage as she was joined by another Senior, Emma Gray who had a 2nd place finish in the 100 meter hurdles giving Canyon Lake 24 points in this event as Sydney Reibschaeger finished 3rd in the event.

Reibschaeger finished 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles with Drum’s 1st place and another 16 points in a strong Hawk race. That gave Canyon Lake 40 points in those two hurdle runs.

CL Boys Run Away with Panther Relay Track Meet, Varsity and JV both Win

Canyon Lake dominated the Panther Relays in Navarro last Thursday as the Hawk Boys team finished

first in the Varsity and Junior Varsity divisions.

The Hawks had started their first 3 Track Meets in competition with larger schools and on this night, CL was running and throwing against schools in their same class or smaller.

This resulted in what the Hawk Nation was hoping for as Canyon Lake’s depth was too much as they ran away from their adversaries in winning both divisions.

Caimen McDonough came back to earth and scored 34 points which was down from his 42 point day last week in Dripping Springs.

McDonough had Trenton Lorett nipping at his heels with a 31 point day as those two athletes scored more points than 4 schools which if you added up those team’s points they would have totaled 67 points.

Hawks Can’t Capitalize in Loss to Columbus, 15-6

Canyon Lake could not capitalize in their loss to Columbus, 15-6, during the Comal County Baseball Tournament.

The Hawks made a valiant comeback when they scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 2nd to draw within 2 runs of the visitors.

That inning had 4 timely hits and enough chaos to put Canyon Lake into a position to make a game on this night.

CL just could not get a 1-2-3 inning as Columbus continued to put pressure on the Hawk defense as Hawk errors made the innings too long for the tired arms for Canyon Lake to withstand the onslaught.

Canyon Lake is also short on arms as JC Parrish (the catcher) got the nod as the starting pitcher on this night.

Coaches Corner with Boy’s Track Troy Moses

Friday, March 4th, 2016

The ReSporter: What are your overall impressions as you have 3 Meets in the books?

Track and Field Coach Troy Moses

Coach Moses: “I can tell you that we have a bunch of young men that want to improve and they don’t mind working hard to get there. So far we have improved with each performance and that is exciting as we get closer to district.”

The ReSporter: How do you approach a Meet like you had in Dripping Springs when you were one of the smallest schools in attendance?
Coach Moses: “We tell the kids that Track is different than other sports. For us there is only one meet that really counts and that’s the District Meet, all other are just practice meets and we are just competing against ourselves to try to better our times each week. So when you go into a meet like that your really not concerned with what those around you are doing. With that said, I thought our kids preformed out standing against the BIGGER schools.”

The ReSporter: I know you look on how you can maximize your points is that a process that continues until the day of the District Meet? (more…)

CL Hawks Get 1st Win over SA Burbank, 2-1

Go Hawks!!

          Go Hawks!!

It was a good day for Canyon Lake’s Baseball team as they finally broke the dam for a win over San Antonio Burbank behind some strong pitching and 2-1 win.

Colton McDonald was the starter and he went 5 innings in giving up just 2 hits and keeping the visitors without a way to deposit in their ‘Bur’ Bank.

The Hawks scratched across two runs in the 3rd inning as Gavin Dietrich knocked a run in with a triple and scored the next run off the bat of Austin Brooks.

Those two runs would hold for this game as Brooks and Avery Montgomery each pitched an inning to shut down Burbank.

Softball’s are Not Soft as Hawks Sweep first day of Blanco Tourney

Maggie Banks is making her presence known in the circle and 3rd base.

Canyon Lake had a banner day in their Blanco Tourney as the Hawks scored 39 runs in their run-a-way games to start with 3 wins.

The Hawks pounded the ‘soft’Ball again on Thursday in Johnson City and now officials will have to dispose of those balls since those Softballs were actually ‘Soft’ after the Hawks pounded them.

Put in perspective, CL only had one inning in those 3 contests where there was a 0 used after their 3 outs.

Having 40 hits in those three games will give you an idea of how on fire these Hawks were on this break out day.

Lead off batter, Carly Dubois, was 11 for 11 for the day. Take a look at this line score for this hitter. If you go back to her Fredericksburg game then you have a batter that has 14 hits in her last 15 at bats.

Dubois also used one of her hits for an inside the park home-run to go along with her 6 stolen bases for the day.

Track & Field District 26-4A Best

Go Hawks!!

            Go Hawks!!

The ReSporter has had fun posting times and distances from other District 26-4A teams for Track & Field these past few years.

So far, The ReSporter has results from all 7 schools with two of those institutions with results with just one meet. That would be Yoakum and La Vernia teams.

As you look at the forms below, you will see the name of the athlete then the school they represent and the date they had their result in the meet.

Another item to take note is that The ReSporter can only get results of athletes that finished 1st through 6th place. As many of the places to research will only have those events that have those times and distances recorded.

Hawks Don’t Get DoOver in Loss to Johnson City, Lose 7-4

Gavin Dietrich pitches strong game against Johnson City giving up just 1 earned run

Gavin Dietrich pitches strong game against Johnson City giving up just 1 earned run

If Canyon Lake could have ‘do-overs’ then redoing that 2nd Inning would be where the Hawks would have another chance of playing that inning after a hard fought loss to Johnson City, 7-4.

It has been mentioned before as this year’s Hawk team has just one Senior and has the look of how Canyon Lake started when the school was just starting.

So, this is not the first time for Head Coach Trent Dunavant to be in these situations, “I am finding myself saying things to this team that I said back when we first started.”

“This was a tough game but our effort was good and we knew this year would be a struggle,” Coach Dunavant said. “This team likes to come to the park and they are getting things done and they want to learn and teaching these guys is many times, more than just baseball.”
