Hawks Go Streaken in Win over Bandera, 56-39

Rory Preiss has 8th straight game with double digit scoring

Canyon Lake beat Bandera and now enjoys a 2-1 District 28-4A record as they wait for a State Ranked Boerne team on next Friday.

The Hawks did not look sharp in this win but there were times not to long ago that CL’s basketball team would have taken any type of victory in district play.

“We played with great effort and energy,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman said. “Our defense was ok but we had too many turnovers and too many missed shots.”

But a win is a win and that will have to suffice even when the team is not playing at their peak level.

With these two district wins, Canyon Lake has already tied or beaten 5 other Hawk years in Basketball lore for victories in district play.

This conquest tied last year’s total and the next win, Canyon Lake, will be tied with the all-time best win total in Hawk history at 14. The 2008-09 Hawk team stood with that total in the Hawks 2nd year of play.

Another tidbit to sink your teeth into is having a Hawk team that will end this campaign with the best percentage even if this game was their last victory.

         Hit Man says Go Hawks!

Rory Preiss had high point honors again with a 14 point night and has now finished with double digit point totals for his 8th game in a row.

Three point land was not kind for CL, with a 23% ratio, for those beyond the arc shots and if Canyon Lake had been playing a team not depleted with lost players, this game might have finished with a loss.

Missing 17 three point shots after being successful 5 times is a percentage that will need to improve or a shot that is not used so frequently against those zone defenses.

Solid play by Heath McDonough and Joseph Boyd helped keep that from happening and now CL will have a bye date this coming Tuesday as they welcome Boerne to the Hawk Nest next Friday.

Canyon Lake will need to refine their game with two games yet to play with Boerne and a rematch coming with Fredericksburg.

      North Shore says Go Hawks

“We have a bye game and we will rest up,” Preiss pressed. We will have to push and attack their zone and not fall in love with the three.”

The Hawks largest lead of 17 points was realized at the end of this contest with CL finding their shot from the free throw line and having their most shots inside the 3 point arc in that last quarter.

That might be a formula that can give Canyon Lake the boost needed to end their district games.

Jarred Rollin was moved up from the Junior Varsity for the remainder of this season and his stat line was minuscule but another energetic big in the middle will be available for Coach Chapman.

Beat Boerne!!

“This has been my goal since my freshman year,” Rollins rolled. “I thank Coach for this chance and I can be the energizer and my goal is to help the team win.”

Preiss finished, “We have games with Boerne and Hondo and that will help us get on a roll and then we are going streaken…..we have to finish higher up in district and that is our motivation.”

Hopefully the Hawks will ask for permission before their ‘streaken’ becomes a hindrance but a ‘win streak’ would be a good substitute.

Go Hawks and start a win streak over the Greyhounds!
