Lady Hawk Soccer Builds Wall in Win over La Vernia, 1-0

The Hawk Girl’s Soccer continues to have a strong season as they turned the tables on La Vernia with a, 1-0 victory on Tuesday night, reversing that same score LV scored against Canyon Lake earlier this season.

“For our team to get a win against a team we previously lost to, pretty much evens the score,” Head Coach Ryan Tierney commented. “In my eyes the scores are just settled, what I took away from this game was how we won.”

CL’s defense has been guarding the net like Trump wants to guard the border as no Hawk opponent has scored more than one goal in any game up to this point of the schedule.

“We played great defense and zero shots on goal,” Coach Tierney continued. “But we also played a quality offense just not able to put the ball in the back of the net…..shooting as been an achilles heel this year for us, so we will work harder on that going forward.”

Canyon Lake is on a 5 game no loss streak as a tie with Marble Falls being the only blemish with that streak. The Hawk defense was a main ingredient on this run as they start building a wall around their net.

The Hawks will have 3 more games before their district gets going with a game playing perennial power Boerne Greyhounds. CL has had some good contests and look to keep that up with wins in preparing for a tough group of district opponents.

“At this point our best win has been against a quality Pleasanton team,” Coach Tierney recapped. “The score was tied until the last 18 seconds of the game and we were able to put one into the back of the net to get us to the championship game in that tournament….it was a good team moment and an exciting game.”

Working on improving the offensive side of the game will be a goal (pardon the pun) as there are only 2 weeks before the games that count start.

“We will continue to dot the things that we do well and we will change the things that we do not do well,” Coach said like a technician. “Shooting with little space, finishing the final third, playing 2 touch soccer and high pressure defense all over the field are things we will continue to work on to make the team we want to be.”

Canyon Lake Ladies looks to improve and have a chance for another playoff run as their next contest will be this Friday against Antonian Prep with the JV game starting at 5pm and the Hawk Varsity kicking off at 7pm.

Go Hawks and build a great wall!!
