Lady Hawk’s Start, 2-0 in Hill Country Tournament in Wins over SAC & Blanco
Canyon Lake started their Hill Country Classic Tournament with two wins on Thursday morning as the Hawks continued their hot streak from he batter’s box scoring 15 runs in those two contests.
In the first game, the Hawks, rushed out to a 3-0 lead in the first two innings and road those runs to the finish line beating the Panthers, 3-2.
Bailey Bryan reached base via a walk and stole 2nd base where she was scored when Maddy Puente singled Byran in. Canyon Lake loaded the bases after that run but ran out of outs and left the bases loaded.
The second inning started with a walk to Adriana Zunker who would eventually score on an error after a bunt single by Grace Hinze.
Hinze would score what would be the winning run after Bryan tried to stretch a walk to second base allowing the final run.
Blanco finally answered the bell in the 5th inning with a towering 2 run homer leaving no doubt on those two scores.
In the bottom of the 5th inning, CL, had two base runners with a triple for Bryan and Kat Weber working a walk before time was called giving the game to Canyon Lake.
Lauren Mentzer had a strong game with just a one pitch mistake that cleared the fence but with 7 strikeouts the Junior Pitcher continues to settle in a groove after two tough starts.
Mentzer was the pitcher of record for the second game after needing just 2 innings of work that was capped with 5 strikeouts, no walks, and no hits to San Antonio Christian.
The Hawk bats were cooled off after this game was run ruled after the 6 run 4th inning giving Canyon Lake a 12 run lead.
Maggie Banks pitched the last two innings with 5 strikeouts and 2 hits for SAC. Canyon Lake finished the day with 19 tournament points that will help prepare the Hawks for a tough Navarro team on Friday morning starting at 8am.
Marley Carrizales led with 3 hits in the second game while CL accumulated 15 hits and 4 doubles before the game was called.
Bryan continued her red-hot bat with 2 hits as this Sophomore is showing some power early in the season.
In the last 4 games, Bryan has put down some impressive numbers as she continues to break that sophomore jinx.
Last 4 Games ab r h bi 2b 3b hr bb so sb ave

That line score translates into any language and continuing that high level of play will be a good omen for future contests.
The Hawks finished last year with 25 doubles and after 9 games played, already stand with 19 doubles for this season.
Navarro is next and that will be a contest to see just how good this group of ladies have progressed as those errors will need to be reduced.
Six errors in two games can spell loss when those games get more valuable (district play) but at this time the errors have been erased with good pitching and lots of offense.
Come out on Friday morning to catch a solid Hawk Team!!
Go Hawks!!
