Gordon the Plumber –  Go Hawks!

Canyon Lake continues to add sports to the spring season and the biggest surprise so far was seen when the Girl’s Golf Team won their tournament last week. That was a first, since this sport teed up their first ball so many years ago.

Congrats Ladies and keep up the good work this season.

Boy’s Basketball will have their last week of regular season action and will be playing for a 2nd seed for the playoffs, when they go on the road to face the Boerne Greyhounds.

A win will pit Canyon Lake with the 3rd Place team in District 27-4A and a loss will pit the Hawks against the 2nd Place finisher in that district.

We know that Austin Eastside and Gonzales are battling it out for that 4th seed and as of this writing, La Vernia would come in as the 3rd seed. If the Bears can beat Wimberley this week then that would throw the Bears into the 2nd Seed and slide the Texan’s down to that 3rd position.

Wimberley and Navarro are both tied, but this district is far from being settled. More will be known on Tuesday night and then a date will be set for a Hawk game with either the Texans or Bears.

Stay tuned to The ReSporter for those developments.

Softball is in the batter’s box and ready for their first pitch this Tuesday when they travel to Wimberley for their season opener.

Wow is impressed with the Hawk Athletes

There is a lot of anticipation for this year’s club as the Freshman class, on paper, is the best group of athletes to enter the Hawk Nest. After winning their district last season at Mountain Valley Middle School it has been a, can’t wait, attitude at CL.

Why? That district, this group beat, was against 6A Middle Schools that feed into perennial powerhouse schools such as Smithson Valley and Canyon High School. Take that in and know that most of those games last year were run-a-way victories.

Go back to the history of MVMS in, The ReSporter, and find two articles that Mountain Valley won in securing that lofty goal.

Another factor with this group of ladies is in the number of athletes that graduated up to CLHS. There have been some good players making it into the halls of Canyon Lake but that hall got a lot more crowded as this team has so many more athletes that will put on the Hawk uniform than those past year’s.

Canyon Lake will hop right into the Huber Tournament after the Tuesday start, where they will be guaranteed 6 games. During the first week of play The ReSporter will be giving you an idea of how this team has started their season.

Baseball is in their final week of playing scrimmages and the Varsity will travel to Burnet on Tuesday while the JV will welcome the Bulldog’s JV to the Hawk Diamond. Then, this Friday, Marion will be at the Hawk Diamond, with a 4:30p start time for the JV and the Hawk Varsity will take the field after that scrimmage finishes.

Miami’s likes the ‘flavors’ the Hawks are serving up.

Track & Field will set their table this Saturday when they will welcome, schools throughout the Hill Country. This will be an interesting season for the Tracksters as CL returns to a district with some common schools after a 2 year hiatus and get back on the cinders against Boerne and Fredericksburg.

The Billies has been a powerhouse for many years as they field a plethora of students and can win Relays with shear numbers.

Canyon Lake will have some talented students, as the Boy’s did not graduate that many points while the girls have added some new girls from that Freshman group and where have we heard that before?

The Hawk Relays will start the Meet at 9:00am and it is always a good time to be in attendance to see what might be in store for this upcoming season.

Soccer started District play last week as both teams lost to Boerne and after a bye on Tuesday will be back in action against Wimberley. The Boys will be traveling across the, Devil’s Backbone, as the Ladies will be home against the Texans.

Both clubs played good games to open the district and will now go into this week wanting to get on the winning side of that ledger.

Go get’em Hawks!!
