The Canyon Lake Hawks play dodge ball in loss to Hondo, 4-3 last Friday night.

Two things, the Hawks were beaned 5 times and in the field CL committed 5 errors.

The errors won this battle as Canyon Lake could not muster enough runs to tip the scale into their favor.

With 4 walks and 5 hit batsman, the Hawks, just did not have that one more hit to help in one of their best played games to date.

This loss was an encouraging sign as all you need is to win one series for a chance of making the

play-offs. Boerne has proven they are the class of District 28-4A.

Avery Montgomery had a good game on the mound with no walks to his name and limiting the Owls to 6 hits.

An error in the bottom of the 2nd inning opened the door for two Owl runs and giving Hondo a lead they would never relinquish for the evening, 2-0.

Hondo would score again after an error put the leading batter on first and then another error would send this Owl batter home for a 3 run lead going into the top of the 4th inning.

After two quick outs, the Hawks would start to show life after a walk to Drew Tyra and then Montgomery did not dodge a ball which put two runners on.

This dodge ballgame continued when Caleb Williams was hit by a pitch loading the bases.

Dylan Compton responded with a first pitch single to right field scoring Tyra.

William Gore had an infield hit scoring the Hawks second run and a close, 2-3 score.

Then CL would extend another error for the first Owl batter who would eventually come around to help extend Hondo’s lead to, 4-2.

In the 6th inning, the Hawks, would start this inning with a (you guessed it) hit batter for Montgomery again. A double by Williams would put two runners on base.

Compton infield out to the first baseman scored Montgomery to draw CL back to a one run game, 4-3.

Canyon Lake still had no outs when a double play off the bat of Gore and then a strike-out by Dunavant ended this promising inning with the Hawks still needing one more run.

CL would have one more chance when Dietrich reached first base on a wild pitch but he was left on base with no further damage.

Canyon Lake will be in action against this same Hondo team this Tuesday and a better defensive game could have the Hawks with their first win in district play.
