CL Hawks Still having Learning Steps in Loss to Texans, 7-3

The Lady Hawks have 3 losses now and two of those set-backs have come from the bats of  Wimberley, after the Texans ran out for 7 runs in the first 4 innings to coast for this win.

Canyon Lake was their own worst enemy as that first inning had two Hawk errors which led to those runs.

“We came out relaxed and focused, but we lost it early,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “We are still in our learning steps and seeing how this team reacts in big games is what we are looking for.”

CL did fight back and tied the score in the bottom of the 1st inning by scoring their 2 runs with 2 outs.

Mima’s likes the ‘flavors’ the Hawks are serving up.

Two walks, two hits and one hit batter was how CL inflicted the damage.

Maddy Puente and Kat Weber had the two hits as these same two players combined for a double a piece in the 3rd inning which helped Canyon Lake to score their final run for the evening.

Meanwhile, Wimberley, supplied power with a two-run homer in the 3rd inning and a 6-1 lead.

There was a good sign in this loss with Maggie Banks taking the circle and holding the Texans to just one run for the remainder of the contest.

“She did a great job,” Coach Gallagher stated after he was asked his thoughts on Banks pitching performance. “She threw quick and fast….she has some weapons right now and that helped shut them down.”

That pitching performance was highlighted in the final inning when the Texans loaded the bases without any outs. Canyon Lake had their 4th error during this stanza but a Banks strike-out was huge in getting out of danger.

Hillside Chiropractic says Go CL!

Another great play in getting the lead runner at the plate and then an innocent pop-out to Catcher Kat Weber to douse this potential big inning for Wimberley.

Canyon Lake could not get any momentum and went down 1-2-3 in response and the 3rd loss this season.

The Hawks will have their last tournament before District 28-4A starts up next week.

This tournament will have several battles that can hopefully prepare this year’s edition of the Hawks district play in being more lethal.

Bats going silent and gloves becoming stones will be two items needing to be solved for a good run of games that start counting next week.

Go Hawks!!
