Hawks Bats Finally Get Mosquitoes in Win over Hondo, 13-6

Jessie Melendez is ready for action at first base

CL Hawks Bats finally came out of the cave in the 5th inning for a win over the Hondo Owls, 13-6.

Canyon Lake has started district with two games where those bats have been waiting for the sun to rise before they exit their cave and on this night the Hawks still had enough time to catch some mosquitoes as they responded with 12 runs in their last three stanzas.

An Owl was having a feast with a 4-1 lead going into the 5th inning but having insects for dinner did not sit well as those Hawk Bats came alive to swallow up all of the mosquitoes for an eventual eat-a-way win. (A Bat cam eat up to 1000 mosquitoes in one hour.)

This week, in a game with Boerne, the Greyhounds were in control until a Hawk late run that had these Bats with a lot less to eat and a loss.

The awakening in the 5th inning was started with a Carley Dubois walk. CL has been adept in coaxing walks up until district play as that was the first free pass in their last 53 plate appearances.

Bailey Bryan sacrificed bunt advanced Dubois and then a Maddy Puente single would get the Hawks another run and a 2 run deficit.

Lauren Mentzer had a 2 out single scoring Puente and a single off the bat of Adriana Peaslee had two Hawks on and Maggie Banks next up.

A pitching change and a first pitch pass ball allowed Mentzer and Peaslee to advance and then an Owls error scored those two runs and CL had their first lead of this game, 5-4.

Peaslee has started district with four hits and seems to be officially out of her slump. Puente started her hot streak earlier as she now has a 5 game hitting streak and is presently enjoying a 4 game multi-hit streak to boot.

Patriot-Metal-Arts say Run CL  Run!

CL was able to break their power surge slump with 3 doubles with this win as the Hawks had gone 87 plate appearances since their last extra base hit. Kat Weber was last seen with one of those at bats in the Wimberley game.

Another game with multiple errors that had the Hawk pitchers giving up only one earned run out of the Owls total of six.

Having early rising bats to go with hibernating those errors can have this Hawk team ready for a run for their last 5 district games.

Now the Hawks will welcome Fredericksburg this Friday and hopes that the stadium lights will allow a feast for those bats coming out of the dug-out.
