Canyon Lake put Wimberley out of their misery after a 5-1 drubbing at the Hawk Nest on Tuesday night.

The Hawk’s Boys Soccer were the last team sport to make the playoffs and that feat was realized last year.

This season, Canyon Lake will once again be ordering T-Shirts as they clinched a playoff spot with this win while also eliminating the Texans from that same achievement.

“It is always good to have your playoff spot clinched so early in district,” Head Coach Warren Graham said. “We have our spot lock-in and knocked them (Wimberley) out again.”

CL was the team that had the opportunity of beating the Texans last year for their last game that knocked out Wimberley for a playoff chance last season too.

Canyon Lake will have a chance of being a second seed if a couple of dominoes fall in the right spot.

Fredericksburg will be playing Boerne and if the Greyhounds can win that game then the Hawks would need to win out for a tie breaker scenario and a chance for that 2nd Seed.

Winning out would take a win against Bandera and Fredericksburg which also says something on how well this Hawk team has performed so far this year.

This game was just what the doctor ordered, with a solid run-a-way victory after Grayson Rohrbacher scored 4 of the 5 goals.

James Alexander had the other goal and an assist for this satisfying night, while Brayden Damico made 3 saves on 4 shots on goal.

Mason Blackburn, Trenton Lorett, and Jordan Sczech were the other players with an assist.

“We were upset after our, 2-1 win the last time we played them (Wimberley),” Sczech said. “We wanted to show them how competitive we were and that we were ready for the playoffs.”

Canyon Lake’s team, this season, has had a chance of getting a lot of players involved in their offense.

“That is a big thing and we have really been working on that,” Sczech commented. “We want to secure 3rd place and beat Bandera and Fred.”

If the Hawk’s can pull that sweep off, then one of those tie-breakers would be goals scored in district games….which at this writing has CL above the Billies.

“We have a chance,” Warren Graham said with a gleam in his eyes. “Our whole team has worked hard through this whole season….and to do it (make the playoffs) with 3 games left is unheard of for Canyon Lake.”

                   Go Hawks!

The Hawks have been a doormat for several years and some of those years, the Hawks, went several games in a row without scoring a goal.

“Everybody works their tail off in practice and when they get on the field they do the same thing,” Coach Graham said proudly.

Now Canyon Lake can do things not heard of in previous years….like watching the internet for scores of other games.

Having a 13-5-2 record is one huge accomplishment and add having a 2-2-2 district record is out of this world in boys soccer lore.

The 13 wins thus far represents 34% of the total wins in Hawk History and with 2 games left this group will be the first CL team to not reach the double digit loss plateau.

With the next district win, Canyon Lake will have their most district victories. That first Hawk team had that number and those two wins were reached in 14 tries.

This is a special team and the Hawk Nation can have a chance of seeing this group next Friday when the Billies come to town.

A Canyon Lake victory for this Friday at Bandera would add more intrigue for the Hawks and a good send off for a group of players that have flown to new heights.

Go Hawks!!
