Hawks Hope Win becomes Contagious after Victory over Seguin, 8-6

Canyon Lake breaks the drought after opening with a 5 run lead and holding on against Seguin on a cool Friday night contest, with the Hawks winning, 8-6.
Seguin started this game like many CL contests as they had just one out with the bases loaded. Drew Tyra executed a perfect pitch on a squeeze play that resulted in a pop-up and a nice easy underhanded throw to 3rd for the double play.
Defense is always one of those keys on securing a win and that play would end up being one a turning point in getting some rain clouds for this Hawk drought.
“I started off with an 0-2 (pitch) count and then I just had confidence to go out and hit my spots,” Tyra said eloquently.
Way to Go Hawks
On what is next? “Another win!,” Tyra said with resolve.
“We had a big wall and we can’t knock it down with one hit,” Pitching Coach Bret Hodges said. “I am proud of the kids for not giving up on themselves and success can get contagious.”
Those 8 runs were 40% of the total runs scored in this 10th game played. Canyon Lake has not had a hot start the past two weeks and scoring runs will certainly play a role in how this Hawk team can rebound with more games and chances.
Seguin got wild starting that second inning when the first 6 Hawk batters reached base safely.
JT Greene was cut down trying to steal and would have an odd stat not wanted by many players with securing 2 of the 3 outs in this long inning.
The other side of that dubious coin will let you know that the Hawks were reaching base which would is a great trade-off for that stat.
Hawks Flying High
Caleb Williams had a hard hit through the vacated 2nd base area as the Matador second baseman left his position for a throw on what would have been an attempted steal by Lee Stafford.
Now with players on the corners, Canyon Lake would continue with another walk this time to Dylan Compton followed by two consecutive hit batters in Hayden Reed and Cade Dunavant taking the bruises.
Runs batted in can be assessed on walks and being hit by the ball so by those words, a ‘hit’ batter used his body as a bat for more runs.
You have to love baseball in all those different variables that go into a game.
Another 2 out walk to CJ Parrish would score another run and then that last run scored when Gavin Dietrich reached base on a Matador error.
That damage was extensive with a 5 run inning for a team struggling this season in getting anything positive going.
Seguin scored two runs in their next inning but CL answered with the same amount of runs to match that score which detracted time and innings on their opponent for what would be a long in coming win.
CL is On-Point for Hawk Baseball
Two Seguin errors helped score those runs. With two great bunts, the Hawks, would make the Matadors pay.
Dylan Compton applied the first small ball injection and then a perfect suicide squeeze from Reed would result in a base hit and gave a shot of adrenaline to the home team.
Seguin would stage their last chance of getting back into the game with a 4 run fourth inning but Cale Claycomb would take the mound to put out this fire with a fly-out to end the stanza.
“I just want to get the next batter,” Claycomb was quick with his pitch. “Throw strikes and I had confidence in throwing what is working.”
Claycomb was commenting on how he has 7 pitches in his arsenal.
“Pitching is the straw that stirs the drink,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant commented to his team.
The Hawks would respond once again with a score on a hit from Dietrich and JT Green.
Young Life says let’s Go Hawks
Claycomb was nails on the mound as he started the last inning with a strikeout and weak ground out. Then CL had two errors, giving one last Matador chance, ole.
The Southpaw Claycomb would pick the runner on first base with a wicked move that left the baserunner checking for change in his pockets after he was picked so cleanly.
A great win in many aspects as the Hawks manufactured runs and played a good game of defense combined with two pitchers that held their own for a Hawk win.
Getting contagious would be a good idea for the next shot after the adrenaline wears off.
