CL Hawks are Down One Game after 6-2 Loss to LV Bears
Canyon Lake is down to a one game season on Saturday an Noon after loosing to La Vernia, 6-2 at Steele High School in a best of three series.
“We have got to hit better and get contact,” Head Coach John Gallagher stated. “We are not seeing good pitches…..with what I saw, I was happy with our defense.”
The Hawks scored first when Carley Dubois led off the first inning with a perfect slap hit and then proceeded to break the 100 steal standard putting her in scoring position.
Maddy Puente who leads the team for rbi’s did what needed to be done with a single up the middle and a Hawk lead, 1-0.
Pitcher Lauren Mentzer started with a lead-off walk but no more damage as the first inning would end with a CL lead.
The Hawks could not score in the 2nd inning which now makes that a 9 game stretch of coming out of this frame with no runs.
La Vernia had no such problems as a hit batter and walk were both scored on a line-drive home run over right center field and what would be all the runs the Bears would need in this best of three series.
Canyon Lake would get another run in their 6th inning with the top of their batting order. A Dubois walk followed by a Marley Carrizales single had Dubois stealing another base and on a run down score after a ground out by Bailey Bryan.
The Hawks will have a chance to tie the series tomorrow in San Antonio at the NISD field off of Loop 420.
Canyon Lake, with a win, will play the Bears for the right to continue their playoff run 30 minutes after the end of that 2nd game.
With their backs against the wall, this Hawk team will need to rally and get some mojo against this very talented LV squad.
“Tomorrow, we will be ready to execute,” Senior Center Fielder Dubois said succinctly. “We will need to cleat at the throat.”
Go Hawks and Beat the Bears!!
