Hawks Lose Energy and Game with the Billies, 6-4

Marley Carrizales enters into the playoffs with a .571 batting average.

Canyon Lake did not finish well as the Hawks lost in all three facets of their game against Fredericksburg, 6-4 for a seeding game in Boerne.

Now CL will have a date this Friday with La Vernia at Steele High School with a game time of 7:00pm.

“We were not patient at the plate,” Assistant Coach Mary Beth Gallagher said. “We were not focused and just did not play with any energy.”

That, in a capsule, would play out as this contest would be an uphill battle.

The Hawks could only muster hits from the top of their batting order and then committing 4 errors did the team in as Fredericksburg got enough unearned runs to beat the home-town team.

Canyon Lake matched the Billies in the bottom of the first inning after scoring a tying run on a Marley Carrizales single that had her rounding the bases on wild pitch, then a stolen base, followed by an error on their catcher.

Fredericksburg got their separation in the 3rd inning when the first four batters reached base. Three of those Billies scored as Lauren Mentzer would strike out the side but those numbers were tempered after issuing 3 walks.

CL started inching back in the bottom of the 4th inning when the top of the batting order

responded this time with Carrizales reaching first with a walk.

Carrizales had another stolen base that Maddy Puente could knock in for her 30th rbi for the season.

Errors would help in securing a Fredericksburg win as the next two innings had runs scored by Hawk miscues.

The Hawks did have one more chance to get back in the game as CL scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning.

You guessed it, the top of the batting order started the frame with three consecutive singles but that would be all the damage as Canyon Lake would end the game with 6 consecutive outs.

La Vernia will be a tall order for Canyon Lake as the Hawks have now lost 3 of their last 4 games and no momentum to grab from their locker for the next battle.
