All-District 27-4A Awards for Girls Soccer
Canyon Lake’s Girls Soccer team was plentiful in awards after a promising season.
2017 District 27-4A Girls Soccer Awards
Goalkeeper of the Year: Jenna Pritzkau
“Jenna has been a vital part of our success this year,” Head Coach Ryan Tierney said. “With a Save percentage of 84% and a season total of 140 saves, it is no wonder she won this award.”
First Team All-District Team:
Center Midfielder: Rachel Bennett
“Rachel had a major role within the mid-field. She was the attacking part of our mid-field and was always around the ball,” Coach Tierney heaped praise. “Her work rate was out of the roof.”
Centerback: Ashley Fouse
“This was the first year for Ashley to play Centerback, but she stepped in this season and brought tremendous amount of physicality to the back line,” Tierney continued. “A big ready why our defense was so successful this year.”
Second Team All-District Team:
Centerback: Kaitlyn White
Coach Tierney commented, “Kaitlyn has been a solid leader in the back. She provided a sense of stability and consistency for us. She was an outstanding defender that elevated the defense to one of the best to come through CLHS.”
Center-Midfielder: Chloe Cullen
Coach Tierney: “Chloe was a highly skilled mid-fielder who facilitated and lead by example on the field. She will take her game to the next level by playing for UT Tyler in the fall.”
Defensive-Midfielder: Meredith Ellery
Coach Tierney: “Meredith is an aggressive defender who sits in front of the defense. She elevated the team with her physicality and not only that, but facilitated and brought an offensive presence when needed.”
2017 Honorable Mention:
Right-Midfielder: Katie Rios
Coach Tierney: Katie did an amazing job this season by bringing attacks to the win. She is tough individual by playing most of the season with a serious hip injury.
Center-Midfielder: Brandi Schimonsky
Coach Tierney: “Brandi understands the game so well. She can anticipate and see the game as it unfolds. She is highly skilled and brings an offensive presence to the field.”
Forward: Kalani Thorpe
Coach Tierney: “Kalani is only a freshman. She did amazing things this season for us. She is the most athletic player and the future is bright for her. She always says yes sir or no sir ad her work rate is out of this world.”
This was an accomplished group of ladies and Canyon Lake will be looking for more heights that these returning players might have in store for the Hawk Nation.
“I just want to say congratulations to all of these individuals,” Coach Tierney said. “They worked really hard this season to receive these awards. I want to than all of the individuals on the Girls Canyon Lake Soccer Team. They all worked extremely hard and each one of them had their moments this season. I appreciate their commitment and their sacrifice for the game of soccer.”
Way to GO HAWKS!!!
