CL Hawks Softball Team Bring Home a U-Haul Full of District Awards
The CL Hawks had good representation for District 28-4A awards in Softball for the 2017 season.
Maddy Puente brought home the Offensive MVP for the Hawks after swatting the ball with some degree of authority during her freshman campaign.
Puente led Canyon Lake with 18 hits with 3 doubles and 2 home-runs for her first 8 games of varsity play. Another impressive stat was her 18 rbi’s for district play. Puente finished the year reaching base safely for her last 16 games and with a 14 game hitting streak to start her Sophomore year.
Marley Carrizales tied with Grace Duecker with Fredericksburg for Newcomer of the year adding to the wealth of youth for the Hawks.
Carrizales finished her first year with a lofty .667 batting average without any strikeouts and her on-base-percentage was an astonishing .704 average.
Sophomore Bailey Bryan was voted as the Utility player award as that award spoke
of how she could play several positions without missing a beat. Bryan played two infield positions and was also spotted in the outfield a few times during district play.
Bryan’s district average was a respectable .484 average as she joined 5 Hawks with double digit hits giving you reason for garnering this award.
Lauren Mentzer was voted as the unanimous 1st Team Pitcher for District 28-4A as this Junior will have another year to continue her success pitching and batting for CL.
Kat Weber made 1st Team Infield and Carley Dubois pulled in another 1st Team Outfield award.
Adriana Peaslee would be the 3rd Freshman to bring home some hardware, as 1st Team Outfield, pat on the back, as Canyon Lake had their best haul of awards ever after all the votes were cast.
Canyon Lake was not finished as Maggie Banks brought home a 2nd Team Pitcher voting as the Hawk Coaches had to rent a U-Haul to have enough room to pack the accolades.
Finally, the Hawks, had Adrianna Zunker and Jessie Melendez being recipients of a Honorable Mention Award as Canyon Lake would have 9 players be mentioned for some type of award for this year’s district contests.
Canyon Lake will be saying good-bye to Dubois and Weber as both players will continue to take their softball skills to the College level.
Congratulations and Next Year cannot get here soon enough.
Go Hawks!!
