Volleyball’s Coaches Corner with Kim Paisley
Canyon Lake will be starting up their sports with the Volleyball team when the Hawks will be taking on the Alumni Hawks on August 3rd.
Volleyball has the best record for any sport at Canyon Lake and will look to continue that mantra this year with a team returning several starters and other players that had some 1st place finishes with those Sub-Varsity teams this past year.
The ReSporter caught up with Head Coach Kim Paisley as she shared what might be in store for this year’s team.
The ReSporter: Another year at the helm and a good chance for another good season. What are your thoughts as this next chapter at Canyon Lake opens in August?
Coach Paisley: “I am excited for another great year! I am ready to rack up the gold ball count by taking district and going further into the playoffs!”
The ReSporter: You lost a 4 year starter at one of the most important positions with Reagan Mickey going off to College. How many girls will be vying for that place in the line-up?
Coach Paisley: “We do have big shoes to fill after losing our 4 year quarterback, Regan Mickey, on varsity, but we do have a few setters chomping at the bit! They are excited for try-outs to get here and take on this role as our new quarterback.”
The ReSporter: Last year you lost several good players with two playing in college, but you had several girls step-up. Do you have the program at the position where capable players are ready to fill those holes left by Senior players?
Coach Paisley: “We have lost 7 seniors the last 3 seasons and so far we have been able to rise to the occasion and fill those shoes. The kids we have are able and wanting to carry on the tradition!”
The ReSporter: After a lot of road games last season, this year those games will be at home…how will you grade this schedule before district starts compared to last year?
Coach Paisley: “We will have more home games this season, but I do feel with tournament play we will still have the on the road experience in our favor. We will still face some tough opponents throughout preseason getting us ready for district!”
The ReSporter: You have a pipeline of good classes continuing to feed into your Varsity, what would be a fair assessment of where this group will be to start this year’s campaign in comparison to your past teams.
Coach Paisley: “This year’s sophomore group is very strong all around and I expect good things to come from next year’s group of freshman. All of our girls 9th through 12th are hard workers and get after it!”
The ReSporter: Thanks Coach and we will see you at the Alumni Match on Thursday, August 3rd at 6:30 pm, Hawk’s Nest
