Canyon Lake’s 10th year of competition will get started this week as the 3 Fall Sports start preparing for competition.

The Hawk’s Volleyball squad will have a scrimmage against Blanco on Friday while both the Cross Country and Football crews will start their first week of getting in shape coming this Monday.

Cross Country will be running against a stacked deck again this year, as the schools in District 27-4A are at the top with all 4 schools having a good group of runners.

The Hawks will have several runners with another year of experience as they will begin to make a dent in a league loaded with good distance athletes.

Canyon Lake started competing 10 years ago, but remember that the first year of varsity contests, the Hawks, only had one team that actually counted their wins and losses that first season.

Football has been the only sport counting that first season of games with a 1-9 record was recorded in the record books.

CL Volleyball has a stellar, 180-138 all time record not counting that first year of competition. Even if the Hawks started with a year of being 20 games under .500 that first season, it would not matter as this sport would still be resting above water.

The Football crew is 11 games under .500 and if you took that first year of games off the books then, Canyon Lake, would have a great chance of breaking that .500 watermark.

Volleyball lost some good players but they will also be bringing a bunch of athletes with a ton of talent with those Sub-Varsity teams that has been putting up some good marks the past few years.

Depth will be a strength with several players that will be playing on the Junior Varsity that in previous Hawk seasons would be on the Varsity.

Hawk’s Front Line is back.

A 90-34 record these past three campaigns will give this team a lot of momentum starting this season. During those same 3 years, a district record of 27-5 is even more impressive.

Canyon Lake had a 5-27 district mark the previous 3 years before this streak started. That about face has been an impressive showing as the goals have changed from making the playoffs to making the 3rd round of the playoffs and beyond.

This year’s football team has been ranked 18th in the State according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine and The Texas High School Coaches Association Coaches PreSeason Poll has your Hawks tied for 5th for the Region IV, Division I rankings.

Canyon Lake will be facing 2 teams from 4A-Division II that are ranked high with Giddings ranked 5th and Wimberley holding down the 6th spot in the Texas Football Top 20 4A Division II rankings.

With 3 years of loaded teams coming up from Mountain Valley, this year, the Hawks will have their Senior squad holding down the fort with the two lower grades being able to add depth not seen at Canyon Lake…..ever.

   Hawks Flying High

That is easy to say when a school is only 10 years old, but the facts are there to see with 3 years of winning teams that will attempt to put Canyon Lake on the map.

Last season saw this Hawk team have their best offensive output averaging 38 points per game and 429 total yards per game.

This will be a year where the goals have been raised with a District Championship being coveted, after missing that mark by one game in the loss to Taylor.

Another year is ready to get started and The ReSporter looks forward to having a chance of sharing the accomplishments with the Hawk Nation.

Go Hawks!!
