CL Hawks Sweep into Gold Pool at Tex-Fest Tournament

Faith Hasness has new rolls to perform for her Senior Year

CL Hawks Volleyball finished their first day of matches undefeated and will now start their contests on Saturday competing in the Gold Pool.

Johnson City will be next starting at 9am in Wimberley.

The day was not that easy as CL had some struggles in climbing the mountain, but once they got in gear, then a victory was realised.

Each match had the Hawks starting slow as CL outscored this 3 team day by a combined 11 points.

That next contest was much different with a lopsided, 37 points difference to catapult the Hawks to the next round with an undefeated record.

Anna Bettersworth totalled 19 kills for the day while Faith Hasness chipped in with 27 assists.

The Hawks are still trying to find a good rotation as Head Coach Kim Paisley looked like a Chess Champion as she had numerous substitutions throughout the day.

“We started playing much better and coming out of our shells,” Coach Paisley assessed. “We have to start communicating and not be so timid….we need more vocal leadership.”

It was a long day of games but the end result was what CL needed to settle in for a Saturday against more schools that are in the same boat….champions of their Pool Play.

“This was different,” Senior Faith Hasness said after she was asked for her opinion on the first day of competition. “I don’t get to hit as much and we are counting on our back row into getting better passes.”

Hasness has played her first two campaigns predominantly as a outside hitter and now will be concentrating on quarterbacking the team with her set shot.

CL had been counting on graduate Regan Mickey the past four years in that position and this will be a key spot for the Hawks as they hone in on their skills to be ready for district play.

Megan Mickey had a soft kill that was always unexpected during a game and Hasness did have a kill with that same move, except her kill had more velocity for the score.

“I do want to do that along with not getting it blocked,” Hasness finished. “Sometimes you have to switch it up.”

Canyon Lake will now get ready for another day and hopefully improve on their first game jitters as their foes on Saturday will not be as accommodating.

Johnson City will be the next team up on Saturday starting at 9am.
