Hawk JV Flies Over the Lions, 25-20 and 25-20

Peyton Chew is a welcoming sight for Hawks Volleyball

The Hawk’s Sub-Varsity Volleyball teams both swept the Lockhart Lions with some back to basic wins.

This year the CLJV squad started with two tough opponents before being entered into the Tex-Fest tournament because of last minute team cancellations.

That put the JV ladies against Varsity Schools which gave the Junior Varsity some good reps even though the results did not add up to any wins.

Getting back to basically playing another JV school helped with a Canyon Lake sweep over Lockhart, 25-20 and 25-20.

“Everyone had a good game and shined at some point during the match,” Head JV Coach Megan Helmey stated. “They (Lockhart) were scrappy and they kept coming back….but we were able to finish.”

Coach Helmey is entering her fifth year at Canyon Lake and looks to continue to developing what looks to be another good group of athletes.

Mima’s says good game JV Hawks!

The Hawks have welcomed two players from outside the Canyon Lake area that are making their appearance in Hawk Green this year and both were instrumental in this win.

Peyton Chew a defensive specialist and Haley Overstreet as setter will each be working on becoming familiar with new friends as this season matures.

Chew, from Canyon High School, covers a lot of court as she has a knack for getting to the balls in keeping a rally going.

“I like the atmosphere and the first day I walked in they were all welcoming and I did not get any dirty looks,” Chew recalled when asked how the newness is going for her.

On how this game played out, “We finally reached back to push through and finish…..we worked on picking things up and communication and that was why we were better tonight.”

Chew was remembering the problems from last week’s Tex-Fest games compared to how this team finished tonight.

Overstreet will be a key as she is the main setter for the JV team this year as she comes to Canyon Lake from Deer Park High School near Houston.

Haley Overstreet is setter for CLJV this season.

“It has been good, nice, and welcoming school,” Overstreet said in talking about the new surroundings. “I am doing my best and starting to get used to each other….We are close after a couple more practices and we have progressed against each team we have played.”

This Junior Varsity won District as Freshman last season will continue to work on becoming a champion again this year as the Hawk pipeline continues to be in good shape.

The Hawks took care of business on this night and look to continue that trend as the season continues.
