Freshman Lady Hawks Fly Past Greyhounds, 25-9 and 25-16
The Sub-Varsity Volleyball teams were also in action on Tuesday night in battles with Boerne.
CL’s JV fell in two games to the Greyhounds, 21-25 and 14-25 and will continue their chance to improve when they meet up with Hondo this Friday.
For the Freshman team, the Hawks proved they were faster than the Hounds winning in two games, 25-9 and 25-16.
The games were actually worse than the score as there was just two times, both in the second game, that Boerne was able to score more than 2 points during their serve.
To take that further, the Greyhounds scored on their serves 4 times total for the match.
Canyon Lake’s serves had few service errors and the passing was spot on for this contest.
“They had intensity and we were not content with a 10 point lead,” Freshman Coach Tosha Ridgeway said with resolve. “The game was not finished until we reached 25 points….I am very proud of them.”
This was a good way of starting district play as this group of ladies seems to have good communication on the court as very few mistakes were seen.
“We had great practices,” Coach Ridgeway continued. “That will usually give you a bad feeling as you will sometimes hope that you are not using all the good play up in practice before a game.”
“But we did not use it all up,” Ridgeway said with a gleam in her eye.
The Hawks jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead in that first game as kills by Riley Shear and good serves from Kylie Morgan helped.
CL was not finished as the lead would increase with each serve until the Hawks were ahead, 19-7 and 20-8.
Morgan would serve the final 4 points to bury the Greyhounds, 25-9.
Shear led the Hawks with 4 kills during that first game as there would be more to come for this sweep.
CL would continue the onslaught with another quick lead, 9-3 lead in the second game….but that was when the Greyhounds would get their largest rally to close the gap to a one point Hawk lead, 11-10.
That would be the extent of Boerne’s night as Kaylee Moore would serve for 10 points allowing another run-a-way victory.
There were 3 aces and kills by Kelsey Taylor and Shear with 2 each and Kylie Morgan getting into the act.
Tilly Wetz was active at the net with 2 kills during the final beat down.
The Freshman Team will be in Hondo this Friday to see if they can continue their unblemished district season.
(The ReSporter would like to apologize to Riley Shear and Kaitlyn Cox as there were some technical difficulties as The ReSporter was hoping to have the first live interviews after the game.)
Go Hawks!!
