Canyon Lake will be on the road this Friday as the Hawks will travel to Giddings to take on the Buffaloes in a measuring stick game.

Mima's says good game Freshman Hawks!!Your name means something in any sport and if you have a name such as, Alabama, then most likely you will have some votes from many sports outlets just because this team has been a consistent winner for a long time.

That same criteria will many times come into play for High School Sports too, as Giddings has had a run of several seasons where going deep into the playoffs is a given.

The Buffaloes are going into their 3rd game still looking for a win as Navarro and Wimberley have already pinned a loss on a team that is not used to being in this predicament many times if at all.

Giddings has 80 wins since CL has been playing a varsity schedule and had a stretch of 45 wins from the 2005 – 2009 span.

Two years ago, the Buffaloes suffered one loss in the 3rd round of the playoffs so you get the idea of the pedigree or resume this school can have when you look and try to prognosticate before a season begins.

There were at least two publications that had the Buffaloes in the top 20 for their 4A Division II classification.

This same school out played Canyon Lake in the 2nd half last year that had the Hawks looking up at a 13 points loss, 21-34.

         Canyon Lake is Hawk Proud

The Hawks had a 7 point advantage going into the halftime locker room and then proceeded to be shut out and out scored 20 points in that second half of action.

Giddings has an advantage of playing Navarro and seeing a Slot-T offense two times in your first 3 games has to give an advantage for schools that do not have a chance of getting in the trenches with that type of offense much if at all for any given year.

The Buffaloes have 4 returning offensive and 6 defensive starters returning on their D-II Bi-District finalist season.

Offensive weapons to keep an eye would be Tavion Page as the feature running back.

Mason Tyler and Richard Rogers both helping to anchor a defensive line that held Canyon Lake to 108 yards in that second half which was 116 yards less than what CL totaled to start the game.

Canyon Lake finished with 3 turnovers in that game and will need to take care of the ball, so that same ball, can have the Slot-T being able to take the air out and control the clock.

Hit Man says Hit a Buffalo this Week

That in itself will not guarantee a win as the contest last year had CL with the ball 11 more minutes than the visitor.

One other variable to add to this formula had CLJV winning last year’s game, 38-20 and those will be the players that move up to fill in for those senior losses.

CL’s Freshman were also on the winning side last year and this should give the Hawks enough good vibes that taking care of business on the road could have your home town team with a 3-0 record and a chance for even more.

One other facet to watch is how well the Hawk Defense plays as this crew has not been challenged yet this season and a game on the road at Giddings could give this part of the Hawk crew some more ammo as this season continues.

Go Hawks!!
