Lady Hawks Win Bi-District Contest over Wimberley with a Sweep

Coach Paisley getting her Point Hawk’s across. In Bi-District win over Texans.

Lady Hawks take care of Wimberley in Bi-District action on Tuesday night at Canyon High School, as CL will continue their season this Friday in Flatonia against the Needville Blue Jays.

Interviews below with Eden Farley and Alysha Perez. Also the final two points scored in the win over Wimberley.

Canyon Lake has now won 7 straight games over the Texans as this was the Hawks 3rd win this season over our friends to the North.

This was the second year in a row that CL has beaten Wimberley in the first round of the playoffs.

The Hawks started their first set behind the eight ball as the Texans jumped out to an, 8-3 lead before Coach Kim Paisley’s time-out. Then the next two service rotations had CL scoring 7 points to take a lead they would ride for a first set win, 25-20.

On what happened in that 3rd set when Wimberley was able to take the lead, “We started just going through the motions and we did not need to lose that game because then that loss has us playing 4 games and then 5 games…,” Coach Paisley said. “We were all fighting for points and started moving our feet on defense to help in this win.”

That opening set had Alysha Perez with 6 kills with 3 of those points coming after that first called time-out by the Hawks.

Anna Bettersworth dominated the net with 3 blocks during that segment while chipping in 4 kills to help Canyon Lake keep their lead and first set win.

During the second set, the score would mirror that first game when Junior Paige Bower would have a 5 serve rally with Perez helping continue the service with two kills and second set win, 25-17.

CL Hawks would take off in the third set, with a 12-5 lead as the Texans would battle back to take the lead, 15-14.

Another, Coach Paisley time-out, would be all the Lady Hawks would need to get back a fire that would stay hot until the end of this sweep, 25-20.

Perez would finish with her high for this year in kills with 15 in the 3 game sweep. Anna ‘Block’ Bettersworth would contribute 8 kills to go along with 5 blocks for this Hawk win.

Those blocks would be a harsh reality for the Texans as it would cause players to be frustrated as the Texan’s would hit the ball into the net after a block rejected a Wimberley’s try for a point.

Senior Faith Hasness has had some impressive kills while waiting for distributing a set for a Hawk point.
Hasness will decide for a kill while the opposing team is looking to see who will get her set.

“I like to do that type of kill while the other team is scrambling,” Hasness said craftly. “It is usually during a free ball and the ball will be tight (close to the net), then I like to fake it and then go for it.

The CL fans would let you know that it was a Point Hawks!!

The Hawks will need to muster all they can, as their next opponent, will be Needville and this team is ranked in the top 10 in the 4A classification.

“We will need to stay focused,” Hasness gave some ideas of what CL will need to overcome the Blue Jays. “We will need to have good warm-ups and a good pre/game….and Start Strong—Stay Strong—Finish Strong and we will put up a fight.”

Go Hawks and Congrats on a win over Wimberley….again!!!!
