MVMS 8th Football Fall just Short & Tie Boerne MS, 14-14

Mountain Valley’s 8A Team being taught after tie with Boerne, 14-14.

Mountain Valley Middle School 8A was just short for a win as the Hawks still finished tied against an undefeated Boerne 8A team, 14-14.

“Our A team game was a tough fight against an undefeated Boerne team,” Head Coach Brandon Pawelek stated.  “They had some size and athleticism and were probably the best team we’ve played this year.  Our offensive struggled to move the ball on a few possessions and our defense played really well and kept us in the game with a chance to win at the end.”

Mountain Valley had a great chance to take the game in the later stages but was just short on their last running play.

“It’s hard ending with a tie when we just needed one more play to score from the 1 yard line we just ran out of time,” Coach Pawelek continued. “The other thing that shows us how close we were to winning that game is coming up one foot short on our first 2 point conversion try.”

That first half was a slugfest with no scoring to show for their bruises.

Then the 2nd half would be a different story as James Bates would take the 2nd half kick-off for 68 yards and was able to finish his run on the first play when he scored from 2 yards out.

That would be a short lived lead as the Greyhounds would respond after converting a 4th down play for a touchdown and after a missed pass the score was tied, 6-6.

Boerne would score again with 4:43 left on the 4th quarter clock on a 3 play drive that was highlighted with a 53 yard pass and run. This time the visitors were good on their 2point try giving them the lead, 14-6.

Mountain Valley would strike back scoring when Bates would not be denied on a 27 yard run that seemed like every Greyhound with a chance to tackle the not to be denied Hawk. MV was also successful with a 2point try to tie the score with the clock showing, 1:22 of playing time.

Keith Bowers would make a big Hawk play when he recovered an onside kick giving your Hawks one more chance to seize the lead.

An interference call with an unsportsmanlike penalties would give Mountain Valley possession on Boerne’s 13 yard line with 20 second left on the clock.

Two plays that covered 7 yards would have the Hawks needing 7 yards for a walk-off win.

Bates got the call and would be downed just short of the goal line and a tied score for both squads.

Mountain Valley will be back in action this Thursday in Fredericksburg as they continue to team up with all the other MVMS teams that have just one loss combined for the season.

Good Going Hawks and go get a Billie this week.
