A decent week of Hawk sports as Volleyball and Football found themselves leaving the field/court of competition on the winning side.
The Hawk Volleyball team are 2-0 in district play after wins over Boerne and Hondo and will now see just how good they will be when the travel to Fredericksburg for a Tuesday showdown with the Billies.
Canyon Lake lost their first game in Hondo on Friday but did rebound with some degree of authority as they would win the last 3 matches keeping the Owls under the 20 point barrier.
This week will have the first round being concluded and a better feel of where this year’s team might stand when the district round-robin finishes at the end of this month.
Sub-Varsity Volleyball had a split with the JV losing to Boerne but taking Hondo while the Freshman did just the opposite after sweeping the Greyhounds and then coming up short in their game with the Owls.
Football had a mixed bag with the JV/Freshman teams….The Hawk JV came back with a big win over Lampasas while CL Freshman did not quite get to the adult table after suffering some mistakes in their loss to the Badgers.
Canyon Lake’s Varsity battled back for a tied halftime and then continued their strong play into the second half with a 14 point victory.
That first half was crazy during the 2nd quarter as the Badgers badgered a 21-7 lead before CL started a 28 point barrage as the defense would be stout while having the offense getting in gear for a much needed win.
After two weeks of close losses, the Lampasas game will prepare the Hawks for this week’s game with Austin Akins at home.
A 6A foe will be a challenge and with another week of healing, Canyon Lake will look to get their team healthy as the District 14-4A gets going in two weeks.
Go see some games this week and support this year’s teams.
Go Hawks!!
