Lady Hawks Basketball Take Care of Lehman, 40-38

Canyon Lake Lady Hawks go to 2-0 for the year with a defensive win, 40-38 over the Lehman Lobos on Tuesday night.

The Hawks had some reinforcements from the volleyball team, but an overall defensive game is what helped CL stake another win in as many games.

“Our defensive effort was fantastic,” Head Coach Zach Burleson stated. “We made up for a lot with a high level of intensity…..I couldn’t be more pleased from an effort standpoint.”

The Lady Hawks would need to to match their defensive game after committing 41 turnovers in this contest. To get a win with that many mistakes speaks volumes for a game this early in the season.

“We were able to make up for that against Lehman, with the best defensive effort I’ve seen since I have been here,” Coach Burleson continued. “It is early, so we will clean that up.”

Good news, for Canyon Lake if cleaning up happens, then more wins can certainly be a goal that is reachable.

Senior Alexa Ramos had her second double digit scoring effort in the victory with a game high 15 points.

Another Senior, Char Hutson, had her second good output with 8 points and 8 rebounds that will certainly help if she can continue this early output on the floor.

Sophomore Chelsea Tschoepe continues to impress after scoring 18 points in her first game complemented that with 8 points in this contest. What is a more telling stat for Tschoepe was having her second game of 7 steals.

Coach Burleson said it best, “Our girls stepped up and rose to the challenge. This was a good win and we will try to maintain that level going forward.”

The Lady Hawks will welcome Johnson City to the Nest this Friday starting at 5pm as the season starts continues.
