Lady Hawks Take Down Wimberley, 54-36
Canyon Lake ran their record to 4-0 after taking care of Wimberley at the Hawk Nest, 54-36 on Tuesday night.
The Texans were held to one field goal in that first stanza as the Hawks put together a 13 point quarter for an 11 point lead that was never threatened for the remainder of this contest. This win now has CL with a 2 game winning streak over Wimberley.
“They (Wimberley) played hard and we did not match their intensity,” Head Coach Zach Burleson said. “We could be a good team but we will need to learn how to respond and play with more maturity.”
Reagan Heun was back on the roster after resting some injuries with a 22 point evening. Jessie Melendez continues to get better on the boards and was able to have her high game for this young season scoring 9 points.
Another given is seeing Chelsea Tschoepe playing a solid defense as she continues to pile up an impressive amount of steals. Tschoepe had 5 for the evening and for the season resides with 24 steals.
Canyon Lake built their lead up to 22 points during the early part of the 4th quarter when Heun sank a long range 3 pointer, putting the Hawks up, 47-25. From that point on the game was played from the foul line.
The Hawks continue to improve as they will now ready themselves for a 6 game tournament in Austin starting on Thursday.
Thursday: Canyon Lake vs. St. Michael’s at Noon Hondo vs. Canyon Lake at 5:00pm Friday: Canyon Lake vs. Lampasas at Noon McCallum vs. Canyon Lake at 5:00pm Saturday: Canyon Lake vs. Austin Crockett at 9:00am Aus Reagan vs. Canyon Lake at 3:30pm
CL has a short bench right now and with 6 games in three days, the Hawks will need to be in good shape to make through this gauntlet of contests.
