CL’s JV 1 squad held off a furious comeback try by the Navarro JV team as the Hawks put a ‘W’ on their season record, 43-39.

North Shore Pharmacy says Way to Go Hawks!!

Fresh off a Comfort Tournament Championship, Canyon Lake’s JV 1 team had just enough to finish off the Panthers.

Injuries had depleted Canyon Lake’s roster and playing with 6 students will lead to end of  game complications as the Hawks played Chinese Checkers with players in foul trouble while dealing with tired legs.

The Hawks won the first quarter with a, 10-6 score and then would, up the ante, when CL outscored the Panthers by 10 points in the second period and a, 27-13 halftime lead.

Sophia Barber was the constant threat against Navarro as this guard was able to score 14 of her 23 points in the first half which helped increase Canyon Lake’s hold on the Panthers.

Getting shots off was not a problem for this short-handed crew as this Lady Hawk team’s arms were tired more than their legs after getting 18 shots off in that first stanza. Losing steam would continue as the Hawks finished the first half with 9 offensive rebounds but could only muster 2 offensive rebounds for that entire second half of play.

                        Go Hawks!!

“They worked hard and wanted it more than they were tired,” Head JV Coach Megan Helmey stated.

Barber was consistent as she stepped up her game in that final exhausting last quarter with 6 points to help stave off the Panthers for their 4 point win.

“It was hard,” Barber said. “They were going at us hard and fast in that last quarter and we just had to watch ourselves and play aggressive to win.”

Barber finished with 9 rebounds and 4 steals to cap off her scoring night as Emily Geist and Emily Boylan were both able to hit double digit rebounding with each finishing with 10.

Geist and Josiah Hespen spread the ball around dishing out 4 and 3 assists respectfully.

                      Go Hawks!!

Madison Harwell was one of 3 Hawks that finished the game with 4 or more fouls as she was efficient under the basket making 4 of 5 shots with corralling 7 rebounds of her own.

All hands were on deck as Madison Churbe was instrumental in bringing the ball up the court and this fast jet was all over the Panthers defensively.

This win kept this season’s momentum going as this Sub-Varsity group will be able to rest up as they will be off for the next two weeks before their next game and hopefully a few more players on the bench.

Good win and Way to Go Hawks!!
