        ===================================================================

               Proud of the Hawks!!

The Lady Hawks will be going to battle with Boerne this Friday as they will attempt to keep pace with the Battling Billies who started the 2nd round of District 28-4A contests with a win over Hondo.

Canyon Lake has their game with the Greyhounds who happened to be the team that left the Hawks with a loss earlier this month, 58-48. Boerne won their Tuesday contest with Bandera and with a win, over CL, can put themselves squarely in the middle of the brawl for District 28-4A supremacy as there are 3 teams separated by one game at this time.

Canyon Lake has been on a run this year, that already has this group of ladies with 6 more wins than their best season back in 2010 where that crew finished their season, 19-10.

That was also the first and only time Canyon Lake had a winning district slate, finishing (5-3).

The 2010 campaign had an undefeated home record while this year, CL has lost just once to Navarro back during the first part of December.

              month wins losses home record
              November 11 3 6-0
              December 10 2 1-1
              January 4 1 2-0
              totals 25 6 9-1

Suffice to say, the Hawks have some distinct hurdles in their path and Friday nights contest will be the first for a group that can finish first by winning their remaining 4 games.

Alayna-Gayle says way to Go Hawks!!

Canyon Lake has both of the schools at the Hawk Nest for their battles and another hurdle will be next Tuesday when the Hawks travel 100 miles to Hondo.

Interesting set-up for that contest with your Hawks already having played the Owls 3 times and being on the winning side at the sound of the 4th quarter.

That last huge hurdle will be in a week when Fredericksburg comes calling for a rematch of CL’s earlier win over the Billies. The win was the first time Canyon Lake had beaten the Billies on their own gym floor giving you an idea of how important that victory turned out to be.

Canyon Lake is now in a place where they can improve their chances in the playoffs as placing first in district will have the Hawks playing the 4th Place School in the 27-4A district.

Present District Standings for District 27-4A

             School W L Pct. GB
             SA Veterans Memorial 6 0 1.000 ----
             Navarro 4 2 .667 2
             Gonzales 4 2 .667 2
             La Vernia 3 3 .500 3
             Wimberley 1 5 .167 5
             Eastside Memorial 0 6 .000 6

Looking at district gives you the idea that all three of those schools could finish 2nd-3rd-or 4th.

Not much separating those teams and the Hawks already have a loss to Navarro mentioned above. If their schedule was final today, then CL would have a date with La Vernia for their first round contest. The Bears overall record is 24-8, and that is nothing to sneeze about.

Interesting set up and Canyon Lake has immediate concerns in taking care of Boerne and then going down that road one game at a time. A chance for taking the 28-4A Crown after going winless last year would be a major accomplishment.

Good Luck and get out to see this group of ladies!!
