The Bee Gees had a hit song called, Staying Alive===Staying Alive, and that is just what the Canyon Lake Hawks did with their win at Bandera as they stayed alive in District 28-4A with a 2 point victory, 46-44.

We are Proud of the Hawks!

“It was good to get a win, especially on the road in what was pretty much a must-win game,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman commented. “We played with great effort and intensity and just got after it. When we play that way, we can win some games.”

That certainly happened on this night as the Hawks kept the pressure on through out those first three quarters.

Bandera staged a furious comeback in that final quarter but CL stayed alive going into that final period with a 9 point advantage and just enough for staying alive.

Parker Mott reached double figures with 12 points and Caimen McDonough finished with 11 rebounds to go along with 8 points.

Another Big Man, Jarred Rollins, was active on this night scoring 9 points and dishing out 4 assists in the win helping anyway he could and those little things added up for a down to the wire nail biter.

Canyon Lake opened the door up for Bandera as the Hawks turned the ball over 21 times and hit just one free throw out of 9 shots. The Good News is that it was still a win and that is all that mattered after the final horn sounded to end this battle.

CL’s rebounding was the key on this night as those 39 rebounds had 15 coming on the offensive side of the court which resulted in 16 second chance points. Canyon Lake won that battle, 16-2 with another chance of scoring after an initial miss.

“Rebounding is a big strength of ours,” Coach Chapman cleaned the glass. “There were a lot of missed shots in the game, so it is always helpful to grab boards.”

Canyon Lake had to get back to their winning ways they had right before district started.

“We just really focused on us and how we wanted to come out and play,” Coach Chapman finished. “We didn’t spend as much time game planning and scouting Bandera. This game was about us and our effort and intensity, and we did that…..I think that allowed us to play freer mentally….All in all it was a solid win that we needed to have.”

The Bulldogs have a winning record and have beaten teams that Canyon Lake had lost too. This might give this group of players the jolt needed to make a dent for ‘Staying Alive’ for the rest of district play.

So, now the Hawks have their first district win and will be off for a week before they take to the road again next Friday for a match-up with State Ranked Boerne Greyhounds.

Go Hawks!!
