The Boy’s Soccer have just started their round-robin of District 27-4A contests in this Hawk year with a win over Wimberley have put themselves right in the thick of the race.

CL started this year with a loss to Boerne and needed a win in a big way when they faced off against the Texans who had beaten Boerne in their first contest.

“We were coming off of a huge loss to Boerne going into the Wimberley game,” Head Soccer Coach Ryan Tierney said. “We had a great week of practice, we came to work and got better.”

That was the case as this was another shut-out by the Hawks giving them 7 for the year. Brayden Damico has been on his game for most of this season, but Coach Tierney would heap praise for the defensive unit as a whole, as it takes many more teammates than just the goalie.

“It was a big night for our defense who earned their 7th shutout of the season,” Coach Tierney continued. “Our back four played amazing high pressure defense, but it was definitley a team effort to keep the shutout. Our midfield played well, getting numerous amounts of turnovers which helped create a lot of offense for us.”

             Proud of the Hawks!!

Canyon Lake scored their first goal off the foot of Trenton Lorett during the first 10 minutes of action after an assist from Calim Harms.

Calim Harms had a big game with 1 assist and scoring on his own late in the game to put CL up by a 3-0 score.

That other goal? Scored by Wimberley at the Hawk net after a corner kick by Josh Nelson and the Texan mistake added some extra help in determining the outcome in Canyon Lake’s favor.

Taking care of a tough Texan team after a loss to an always tough Boerne squad posed a question on the differences of these two schools and could it be classified as a match-up problem.

“We did match up better versus the Texans,” Coach Tierney surmised. “I also believe we had a poor showing against Boerne as well, as we were just not as ready for them…..it was our first away game since week one, with poor weather conditions and many other factors combined for a poor performance against Boerne all around.”

“Match-ups are still big though. You never know what happens in other games,” Tierney finishes with answers on match-ups. “Boerne could have been missing guys to sickness or injury, or Wimberley just had a really good night against them.”

Whatever the reason, CL is now in a group of teams with legit chances of making strides for a good seed when playoffs start in a few weeks.

High goals for a 3 goal win for the Hawks, “We are in search of a district championship and we do not want to take any opponent for granted.”
