Lady Hawk Tracksters Place 2nd Varsity & 3rd JV at Hawk Relays
The Lady Hawk Tracksters started their season last Wednesday finishing in 2nd place with a slimmer group in numbers.
Audrey Schulze led all the Varsity scorers with 27 points followed by Alysha Perez with 22 points in the Hawk Relay scoring.
Alysha Perez is ready for some fast times for her Senior Year.
CL had a foursome that were also able to reach double figures with Madison Churbe (16), Skylar Hurst (15), Natalie McCoy (14), and Alyssa Strickland (12).
Strickland continued where she left off last season finishing with a 1st place trophy in the 100 meter hurdle race. This athlete started her career on the Junior Varsity as a Freshman. Strickland would be moved up at the end of the track year in time for District competition and would cement her place after winning that race then the Area Meet.
This Hawk Relay Meet had Skylar Hurst running in just 3 events as she is presently busy on the basketball court as that team continues through their playoff run.
Perez will be counted on for some significant scoring as the season matures. Another Sophomore, Madison Churbe started the season with 16 points that were mostly coming from the sprints and relays.
A newcomer that showed promise was Natalie McCoy who was active in the relays that finished with two 1st place finishes and one 2nd place in the 4×400 meter relay. That 4×100 relay was the second fastest on the All-Time list which will hopefully improve enough for a ‘long run’ to better Meets as the season comes to an end in May.
Those Relays had many of the same participants from last season except for McCoy’s appearance.
Jade Lawless had a personal best with her Discus throw of over 100 feet. That was the 2nd best for any Hawk as she will chase Kaelin Simmons as this year continues. Peyton Chew was in the neighborhood with her throw of 90 feet which put her in the top 5 for lady Hawk discus throwers.

Anna Bettersworth made her first appearance in some Field Events and made a good showing in reaching 5 feet in the High Jump. The Ellis Ladies are ahead of that jump but a good sign for future points.
CL’s Junior Varsity finished 3rd in the Hawk Relays scoring 139 points on Wednesday.
These ladies seem poised for some major points in those Sprint Events as the trio of Danielle Carty, Caitlyn MacDonald, and Landry Brown finished 1-2-3 in the 100 meter dash.
Sierra Natal finished 1st in her 200 meter dash chance and the Hawks had Riley Shear finishing in 3rd place in that event.
The best relay was by the 4×200 and had Natal, Brown, Shear, and Carty making of that foursome.
Canyon Lake will be back in action next Saturday at the Lobo Relays at Hays High School.
