It was a great week for Hawk Basketball with the Ladies winning their first two rounds in the UIL Tourney and CL’s Boys played their way into the post-season by taking care of Bandera in a tie-breaker contest.
Canyon Lake now has 3 teams that have made it past the 2nd round in the end of season tournaments. The Lady Hawks entered into that growing club with a win over Sealy last Friday night. They join the Boy’s Soccer and Football teams after taking care of business last week.
Two of those teams (Lady Basketball & Boys Soccer) had not been a frequent participant in playoff scenarios giving these advancements a special feeling sense of accomplishment. It was just the 3rd playoff appearance for the Basketball girls and last year’s Soccer team advanced in their 2nd campaign.
Canyon Lake’s Ladies team will have their work cut out for them this week as they will go to battle against the 7th ranked San Antonio Veterans school that has beaten many teams the Hawks have played by a much larger margin. This contest will be played at Canyon High School with tip-off commencing around 8:00pm.
The Hawk Boys will be starting at the same time about 5 miles to the southwest at New Braunfels High School as the 2nd game of a double header scheduled for an 8:00pm start.
Canyon Lake Boys have had recent success against Wimberley before their Bi-District clash. The Hawks have won both games played this year and will look to see if 3 might be a charm. This Sport is in their 3rd year in a row in making the playoffs. Going to the 2nd round would be another good sign on this sport’s year and how well CL is performing.
All the Sport’s teams have qualified for the playoffs thus far this school year and each team (Volleyball, Football, Lady Basketball) have won their Bi-District round. Having a Hawk Boys Basketball do the trick would be a meaningful achieved bucket list.
Not a day of rest this week with each day having some type of competition.
Baseball gets into the action as the last team sport to start their season with games that count. On Monday the Hawk’s Varsity will play in Llano and CL’s JV crew will have their game at home starting at 5:00pm.
More games come in a Marion Tournament starting on Thursday through Saturday.
Track & Field had a good start to their season last Wednesday and will be back at it in Hays for the Lobo Relays on Saturday.
There are several athletes that have already had personal bests and hopefully more will be coming as this sport matures through these next few weeks.
Softball had a rough week playing ranked opponents and schools that are much larger with 5A and 6A’s after the end of their school’s name. There happened to be several athletes that are still competing in Basketball as Canyon Lake has not had two round-ball teams having games while those other spring sports get going.
That is a good problem to have and this should be an opportunity for younger athletes to get meaningful playing time.
Soccer has the Ladies still looking for their first district win after a loss to Wimberley on Friday.
The Boys Soccer beat Wimberley by shutting out the Texans who had beaten Boerne earlier in the week. That made this a great win as this victory will level the playing field and still has the Boy’s with their eyes on a District 27-4A Title. Want another reason why this was a special win? It was Wimberley.
A full week of action, so get out and take in a game in watching these group of students and remember, if you cannot make a game on Tuesday, then you can catch the Lady Basketball team go to battle for a Quarterfinal battle on the CLB with pre/game beginning at 7:30pm. You can find the link on this site and another chance later in the week if either Basketball team comes away with a victory.
Go Hawks!!
