CL Hawks Win after being down 4 runs in 8-5 win over Somerset

Canyon Lake continues to show signs of having a decent year with another win over Somerset at the Devine Tournament on Friday after taking the lead in the 4th and winning, 8-5.

The Hit Man says Way to Get Hits Hawks!!

Somerset took a 4 run lead to start the game and CL did not fold but made a good attempt and followed through with their 4th win for with solid play from the mound an offensively.

“A lot of things went wrong early,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said. “I told the players that the game was still early and we had plenty of time and we just needed to chip away….then we came back and scored 3 runs which gave us some momentum.”

JT Greene doubled to drive in one run and 4 other Hawks added to the RBI club for a 3 run and 5 run rallies to overcome the Bulldogs and get another win.

Matt Anderson gave up just one earned run and Peyton McMullen pitched the last two innings and the victory.

“Somerset had the bases loaded with no outs and Peyton (McMullen) got a pop fly and then Lee Stafford made a heck of a play at home and we kept them from scoring and that gave us momentum….we showed patience and made positive things happen to us.”

Little things will always add up to big results and for this game, the result was a win.

Caleb Williams reached base with every trip to be plate with two walks and a single and that continues a good on base average which is a major job for a lead-off spot in the line-up.

A lot of good at bats and a good time of coming back from 4 runs down for an important victory that will have District Play commencing in a few days.
