Hawks Finish 3rd for the JV and Varsity at Texan Relays
Canyon Lake’s Boys Track Team came away with two 3rd Place finishes at last week’s Texans Relays in Wimberley.
There was an underlying theme to this Relays as Wimberley ran all over the CL to start this season at the Hawk Relays.
Wimberley totaled 174 points in finishing first as Canyon Lake and this Texan’s Meet had the Hawks winning this battle 94 to 73. There were different teams at both meets with a few schools that came to both but seeing how Canyon Lake would compete against a common opponent would be a way of evaluating how far along this Hawk’s team had progressed.
Caimen McDonough led the way with 32 points as this young man continues to make great strides this season scoring in 4 of the 5 events he was entered in.
The ReSporter has a running (pardon the pun) count on the All-Time Athletes and how many points they totaled during their career. McDonough passed his brother (Heath) earlier this year and is now on a path that could have him passing the All-Time Scorer in Jordan Anderson if McDonough can continue the scoring pace.
With two more main meets in Lockhart and the District 28-4A Meet, McDonough would have a chance if he can qualify in enough chances to continue that chance of passing Anderson.
All-Time Meet Points by Anderson totals: 462 All-Time Meet Points by McDonough totals: 341
McDonough has averaged 32 points per meet thus far and being 121 points away would have a 32 point average for the last two regular season meets and then scoring high in the Area and Region Meet with a chance of at least scaring Anderson’s record.
Canyon Lake has two athletes that are in the top 5 in this category as Lester Boehm (275) just passed Heath McDonough (272) for 3rd place on this list.
Caimen McDonough reached 44 feet in the Triple Jump with a win and that mark would have a chance of reaching past the Region Meet. All of McDonough’s events but one would help in getting points after district concludes.
Boehm had 18 points as he joined McDonough in double digits scoring as these two athletes totaled more than half of CL’s points in this meet.
Canyon Lake’s 4×400 relay brought their time below 3:30.00 with a 2nd Place finish at 3:27.39 as this foursome was just nipped at the finish line by Lampasas. A different group comprised this relay with Landry Moore, Chance Martelli, Jesse Sarmiento, and Lester Boehm teamed up for this time which is best by the District 28-4A schools so far this year.
Boehm had a wind aided 10.86 100 meter time and Chance Martelli continues to inch down his 400 meter dash each week.
For the Junior Varsity, Seth Titzman led this group with 21 points followed by Bryce Vincent (11), Paul Martinez (10), Peyton McMullen (10), and Josh Almond (10).
McMullen had a good high jump getting to 5-10 which is the 2nd best in District 28-4A this year and that mark going with McDonough’s jumps could help in two weeks for district.
This meet has a much better contingent of schools which will help in assessing the Hawks and how to move them or improve their event.
Canyon Lake will be off to Lockhart this Thursday as this will be their last official Meet before District comes the 2nd week of April.
